American Airlines job fair

You had to register it looks like...how did you get in to the event? I assumed badges/checkin process of some sort was made? Or did you just walk in?

I wish you had posted earlier because I literally could've asked Isom and HR people today as I went to the Crew News. He did announce AA is hiring 900 in 2018. I'm guessing around 50/50 flow and off the street.

P.S. I agree this was stupid to do and just shows you how screwed up the company is. FWIW. He was so proud of that Sky Ball event too.

I will say, if you're a military aviator, they have a good future possibility at AA. For us enlisted slobs, eh....

Correction... non aviators.

I'm sure military service has no part in helping one land a job at a major if it doesn't include military flight time. I'm willing to bet they probably question why someone joined the service right of high school vs going to college. Seems like all the smart ones at least went to college first and went through ROTC to get an aviator spot. I say that as someone who enlisted right out of high school :D

Ah, I did everything backwards, so it's even more puzzling. ;)

It’s funny that the guys that work here may have done the same type of things that “weren’t tracked” yet somehow got jobs here. Hmmm.

Maybe. But when someone walks in un-signed, can’t hand in a resume because they won’t take one, and only talks to a recruiter with no way of getting their name or resume passed on, the chances of this event triggering an interview are remote. Not when you are just a John Doe.

Anything else worthwhile?

Don't all apps ask that? I don't know as I've only applied to two...
It's not that they ask for military service or military flight time... I mean every application wants that info. My rub is HOW it's asked. In the freaking demographics.

Are you African American/native American / non Hispanic Caucasian?

Are you male/female?

Are you now or have you ever been a fighter pilot? (almost exact wording of the question)

Tensions seem pretty high at times between civilian and military people and crap like that rubs me the wrong way. I guess in their eyes, as a civilian pilot, I'm just a second class aviator.

Oh well, I guess that's just the game... Life goes on.

I guess you can choose to be male or female these days

Why does that bother you? It’s not that you’re a second class citizen. It’s that fighter pilots are vetted, screened, trained and had to perform to a much higher standard than civilian pilots. That’s a fact.
