Amazon Petitions FAA for Part 135 Exemption

I'm surprised I haven't seen this on here:
"...retailer Amazon is seeking exemptions from FAA to operate its Prime Air drone-delivery service as an air carrier under the agency’s Part 135 regulation."

To me it shouldn't matter if it's piloted or not, if it's flying as an air carrier it should need to comply to the same rules as any piloted airplane.

Agreed.

They're looking for the "it's only freight" exemption.

They've gotten so slow, that unless I HAVE to order it online because local places just don't stock something I don't buy on Amazon anymore.
Yah but free shipping to the bush, so I’m still going to use Amazon a lot. I just assume it’ll take almost two weeks, and when it gets here sooner I’m pleasantly surprised.

We have free guaranteed 1 day delivery now and it’s amazing

With certain products they’ll do same day delivery at my office. Not my rural-ish home. Never needed it for anything but co-workers have tried it out.

Contractor van plastered with their logo shows up a couple of hours after you order something on the short list of things they’ll do it with.

Oh great, Uber for packages. Rather support unionized FedEx, UPS, and USPS workers who aren’t captive to the gig economy dystopia.

"It's the sharing economy!"

Screw you, "disruptive innovator" •lords - it's a stealing economy.
I do have to shake my head at randos who complain about the postal service. In my tour of duty as a 135 DOM, we shipped and received hundreds (maybe a thousand?) packages a year. You know who had the best balance of affordability and speed, with the least problems? USPS. You know who was invariably a huge effing headache to work with and days if not weeks behind schedule? Any independent freight company other than big brown/big purple.

Oh yeah, anyone who knocks the USPS probably needs their head examined.

To be fair, a lot of people, mostly youngin's, are losing their $h!t over "unfair labor practices".

There has been a long proving technique for a collective of people to band together to bargain with employers. That seems to have been forgotten and people just want to jump around and scream, shout and cause general mayhem.

This tells me that maybe causing trouble is more fun than getting paid to do actual work.
