alright fine which foreflight subscription should I buy

I hate this thread.

Which one should I get?
You must have lots of friends at the airport/ in the flying community. FF gives you three devices. Most folks use one or maybe two. Unless you want to use it for filing, take a friend out for some good beers. knowwhatimean?

It’s also really nice when you’re taxiing around an unfamiliar large airport.
This is very true.

Side note, the FSI sims now have a Bluetooth connection that sends a fake GPS position so your tablet will show sim-correct moving maps. Pretty cool feature.

I think the regular basic subscription is plenty, unless you're going to be flying IMC in somewhat hilly or mountainous terrain. I don't think you are, so I'd just save the extra money and put it towards another hour of flying!

ForeFlight is very intuitive and I think I wish we used it at work instead of Jepp Pro.
FSI provides tablets with Jepp Pro to use during sims. It seems like it has some good features but I didn’t want to learn to navigate it in the middle of everything else so I just used my own tablet with ForeFlight.

Basic version is what I use. I swear it’s like cheating. I remember when I was instructing I would pull the database card out of the GPS so students couldn’t use it. Now you can get ForeFlight on a phone….

GPS spoofing was my pet project @ FSI. Our sim had the first iteration of it, we worked with ForeFlight and bad elf to use a bad elf unit to relay the sims “GPS” info to iPads etc.

One of my pushes to make sim more like line as people started to use it. It’s now we’ll beyond that, as they started installing iPads at the instructor station it became a much more organic solution.

That project nearly got killed many times, when I proposed researching it, it was scoffed at.

Glad to hear you like it!

Thank you!

Bought the 99 bucks basic version. I’ll try it out and see how it goes.
That’s what I did. I also print the airport diagram and the most likely approaches at each airport I’ll be doing. I speak Jepp, but I don’t plan to really be flying when I need to really shoot an approach so I just went with the standard charts and it’s been good enough. It’s amazing what’s included in ForeFlight.

That seems more expensive. $45 + $66 = $111

Good catch. Yeah, I guess that's true for the Basic+ level subscription. But for the Pro+ ($199 - $67) or the Performance+ ($299 - $100), it would be a savings of more than the $45 SAFE membership.

It's a pain going to foreflight because all I (wiil) really need it for is charts. I already have a flight planning, performance, and weather service. It's super busy for my basic needs.

Basic is fine for VFR, Pro Plus for IFR.
I assume you fly for United. I think you can afford whichever package you desire.

What specifically about Pro Plus do you find helpful for IFR?

I've only recently gotten back into the IFR aspect of GA...so far I've found the standard version to be fine but maybe I don't know what I'm missing.

It’s just a bunch of money for a guy that is only going to use it a few times per year.

The SR20 I’m renting also has approach charts on the MFD with the aircraft position so I think the pro plus would be overkill.

The georeferenced plates and maps. And it is only $100 more a year. That is $.27 a day. Or most likely less than one hour of rental time.
