alright fine which foreflight subscription should I buy

What fer? I recently sprung for the Performance Plus because I can make a flight plan with accuracy that equals FLTPLAN, file it, and then zap it to the PC12 all from my phone. But that’s nuclear overkill if you want sectional charts for bumping around in a piston single.

I started with basic and upgraded for the geo referenced charts - the upgrade was prorated. Our SR20 transponder sends a WiFi signal that broadcasts position and WX akin to what that Stratus thing does. It’s pretty nice.

Garmin Pilot does the same at a slightly lower price point. It doesn’t nickel and dime you on the features.

Works a little bit differently.

Of course, FltPlan is free.

Garmin Pilot was disappointing, I’d call in Foreflight 2010. Early on Garmin Pilot wouldn’t display an airport if the identifier had a number. Who the F would go to market with that, much less charge a fee? Spoke volumes about the quality control of their product.

When Garmin Pilot was new, it was definitely inferior to ForeFlight, but it has since caught up. Compatibility with reasonably priced android tablets is the number one reason. Additionally, if you are already used to Garmin Avionics, then Pilot is very intuitive.

I recently tried ForeFlight after receiving an iPad as a gift, and I used it a few times and then switched back to Garmin. It does everything ForeFlight does now AND for me, is more intuitive.

I think the regular basic subscription is plenty, unless you're going to be flying IMC in somewhat hilly or mountainous terrain. I don't think you are, so I'd just save the extra money and put it towards another hour of flying!

ForeFlight is very intuitive and I think I wish we used it at work instead of Jepp Pro.
