ALPA sent me an invoice

I always fail to see how a labor group is at fault for the company mismanagement. The reason many upper level executives make boats loads of money is to supposedly direct the company in a profitable way. Labor is just that, labor. They are not supposed to make executive decisions, they are supposed to do a job that creates a product which in turn management sells.

Labor is labor, like say motor oil? 8)

Yes but labor needs to want the company to succeed as well. Bad example I know but like SWA asking to cut corners while in flight. Early arrivals, passengers happy. Less time in flight, lower fuel bills. Everyone wins (provided there is a gate once there). Labor can also upset the system with rude agents (not sure how to help the front line sometimes) and everyone from pilots to ramp/baggage personnel. Make the experience bad and it does impact the company.

Don't you think all that ties into being treated like a worthy human being? If you treat your employees with respect and give them a reason to want the company to succeed I'm sure you can fix that problem. When you take the few things from your employees and then give yourself a raise takes morale and flushes it. As a result your product usually takes a turn for the worse and that becomes a hole that is usually hard to dig out of.

Blaming labor for management groups who take advantage of their employees is absolute bull!

Hoping this was fully directed at me, but won't you agree labor blames management for some things as well, and takes advantage of them as well. Like I said, both to blame.

Most company payroll departments aren't setup to handle individual deductions for each pilot. They set a rule for the entire pilot group (1.95% of gross income minus 401k contributions), and then the payroll processor subtracts that amount, cuts a check to ALPA, and gives you your check. They can't have a different rule for you because you individually got behind on your dues for whatever reason, even if it was the company's fault. Therefore, the company can't do it with auto deductions. It has to be a personal check.
A payroll professional can set up a separate deduction. They just don't want to because it is a tiny bit of work.

I just find it funny that ALPA wrote some pretty harsh words about my potential status if I didn't pay up. When it turned out they were wrong and I was actually in overpayment to them, they said my account was current. I said, "no you owe me 25¢." At least they finally understood after a week of phone calls that I wanted my quarter. It's still taped to a piece of paper. :D

ComplexHiAv8r Well I will agree that labor blames management when they screw up! Remember management needs those bonuses and high pay to make those tough decisions and take care of the shareholders. I will not admit that they take advantage of managers. Managers are supposed to be the smart ones and should know how much things cost.

Interesting difference in terminology in our industry when compared to some other companies abroad in the same field.

I received an ACARS message once, during the final stage of one of the most epic, forewarned company foul-ups I have ever seen: "MANAGEMENT WANTS YOU TO HOLD AS LONG AS POSSIBLE."

Well I'm the manager of the jet, and my assistant manager and I have decided we're done holding.

But that just goes to show you the micromanagement, by management, at times. Just discussed this with the user that I now know to be "ClarkWGriswold" tonight actually.

I bring it up because when I went to sign in at a high-rise in Dubai owned by Emirates, I didn't know where to find my friend's name in the clipboard to sign next to it as his guest to get past the man in the lobby. I told the man he's a pilot, and he gave a quick "ohhh" and grabbed the "Management" folder.

Some labor is more management than management may realize.

Did they actually send you a real quarter?
