Get that video interview done as soon as you can... There's really not a whole lot you can do to prepare for it. The questions will be something like why Allegiant, what if you don't get the base you want, have you ever failed a checkride...? They might ask if you plan to commute too... If you hesitate and answer anything other than "no" they will probably not invite you to interview... Allegiant is absolutely not a commutable airline--though some people try and miserable for it.

Also, Spirit and Frontier are quite a bit different than Allegiant... I definitely wouldn't advise going into the interview thinking that they're one and the same. Your interview experience at Allegiant will likely be the most relaxing and down to earth experience you'll ever have interviewing for 121... They just want to get to know you and make sure you're a good fit for the kind of flying they do... (Day trips/no commuting/FLEXIBLE)

P.S. Wear a suit for the video interview... Pants optional I guess... :bounce:

Thanks for the heads-up, I'm glad I created this thread to remind myself of the *possible* answers two years later. I know that G4 is very different from other majors and I've been commuting for 6 years, it would be nice not to do that.

As far as commuting, I know Allegiant isn't a commuting airline, but I think the other side of that question is "What if you don't get the base you want right away?". I feel answering no outright isn't the best option, but "no, but" is better? In terms of being hired anyway. I wouldn't want to commute long term, but a few months or a year out of a career I've theoretically have 22 more years left in isn't long.

The guys who get assigned a base they don't like usually will just rent a room for a few months while they're there waiting for a spot to open up in a base they want. Depends on the base, but during the slow months with a lot of open time drops available, you could drop some of your trips in base and pick up closer to where you live if there is open time available. I think the best way to answer that would be that your expectation is that even if another base would be more desirable, you might have to move somewhere else while waiting for a spot to open up in the base you want. Honestly, I would avoid the word "commute.." But that's just me YMMV.

What's your opinion on Allegiant's "ties" to a base per se? With GRR being junior, my fear would be that if it becomes unprofitable, it gets dropped, then you're left having to full on relocate or commute, which we've established isn't really possible. Obviously no base is forever, but is this a company this is willing to let a base linger a bit to see if it will recover, or will they pull the plug pronto?

The last base closure was OAK. And in fact GRR used to be a base at G4, which was closed. Closure of smaller bases is definitely a possibility given the prior history.
 
Of course, but G4 loves opening really small bases (think 2-3 airplanes) so the likelihood of closure is waaay up compared to say LAS or IWA.
At least that was the picture before I moved on from there over a year ago.
 
Emerald Coast does give you free prep for life but I have heard some very negative feedback from people who have used / know someone who has used it recently. I think they’ve basically continued to exist based on inertia from their large client base. Interviewers can spot the canned answers they teach to various questions.

That’s definitely the first time I heard that about ECIC. I used them and Cage, and felt very prepared for each interview I had. Lots of my co-workers used ECIC as well, and had good experiences.

Buddy of mine interviewed / was hired at Delta last month. He said that there was some sort of incident with an interviewer becoming frustrated at one of the pilots interviewing because, “this is the 5th time today I’ve heard the same TMAAT story.” Or something like that...

That’s probably on the interviewee. They made it very clear to me that this is exactly what they DON’T want you to do.

I also used Emerald Coast and was happy with their product. That being said, if someone is going to lift canned answers that aren't theirs, there's no helping them.

How do you get the quals for Delta and not have a TMAAT story? I'll guarantee nobody could ever repeat my stories if I ever get a chance to tell them. ECIC was all about your own stories, and no canned answers. I'm not sure where that rumor comes from.

Of course there is that possibility anywhere, that being said Allegiant loves to open and close bases. When I first started GRR was a base...then it wasn’t...apparently it is again. same thing with LAX, it was a base then it wasn’t and now it is again. If I were going to move for a base at Allegiant it would for a LAS, SFB, IWA type base.

Honestly, I doubt they'll be closing any bases soon... They way they do business requires them to have places to put planes while not flying them... They're simply running out of room at other bases. Just this year they're opening ABE, BNA, and DSM, and at least one more base this fall... More planes need more space, and that is a big part of why we have so many bases throughout the system.
