Allegiant to purchase 18 MD-80s

This thread just get hijacked by a.net?

:D I'm just saying. If fuel is 35% to 40% of your expenses, that 33% higher fuel burn means you have to be 12% cheaper somewhere else. It could be that it's found in not leasing or financing aircraft.

Someone should point the Allegiant management over here so they can absorb some wisdom and stop accidentally making money.

PS. It may have been mentioned before (not above a thousand times, I'm sure), but a straight pay comparison doesn't take in to account the fact that Allegiant guys sleep in their own beds 90% of the time (I made that up).

That and anything over 81 hours is paid at 130%. Like I said, it may not be a career destination, but it's better than 9E.

That's what I really admire about the SWA guys. They are always asking for discretion, direct, whatever they can. They do good work and it makes a BIG BIG difference. A lot of other airline's pilots either don't care or are too pissed their pension was taken away to ask for direct to anything.

That's what I mean when I say, "good crews."

Hrmm...

The Delta rates are incorrect.

Just to correct "Wikipedia":

MDs, as Doug said, cruises best at .78 Mach.
737NGs LRC is usually about .792.
Older 737s like .76 although the book says .74.

Interesting. The link from Airlinepilotcentral goes to a dead page, and they don't currently have FO listed as a job opening on their career page. Would also seem that they're updating their application process, too. Used to, you had to mail or fax in an app. Looks like it's all gonna be on-line now.

I know that basing your future pay on an upgrade time frame is a recipe for disappointment, but if you could predict that the 2-3 year upgrade trend at Allegiant would continue, then I think through years 1-10 you would actually make more than a Major.

If I was a second career guy at a regional with less than 15 years before mandatory retirement, I would be jumping on the Allegiant thing.

Actually, I might be jumping on it anyway.

What's the schedule like there? SFB reasonably "holdable" for a new hire?

...just curious.

-mini

I hope they are all day trips because with only $1 per diem and matching only 3% on the 401K you are not going to be able to eat out on the road.

I honestly don't know. Every time we get an Allegiant guy on here, the union nazis chase them off.

:yeahthat:

We lost a few really good members who had a lot to contribute because of this. Some of us are going to have to learn that flaming and threats is not the way to go.

As far as the schedule is concerned, I hear that it's mostly day trips. My buddy does a decent amount of charter flying which usually require a layover though. I'll see if I can get him to come back and start posting again.

My buddy over there had 95 credit hours and 120 hours away from base on a Vegas schedule. Home every night to his 3 beautiful kids. I wish they'd start a MEM base, Tunica is all charters.

I'm suprised that they haven't opened up a Tunica base yet. I hear that Tunica is second to Vegas when it comes to casinos and gambling!

They do. It's just all charter. Not too many tourists from outside the area to fly into that huge FBO to go see Aaron Lewis playing at the Hollywood or Gold Strike. :)

Everyone keeps telling me that if I stayed in Tunica I'd get senior quick. I'll ride the SS Mesaba into the water a bit longer, Allegiant gets ALPA on property I might give it a try. Until then, Taco Bell manager.

I hear Pinnacle is bringing the Colgan guys to MEM for a saab base.
