Alaska landing incident SNA

I didn’t have the heart to explain to a late 50s Mormon captain why I chuckled during his approach briefing one time.

I have a friend at your shop, who said she was forced by the CA to brief all possible runways/arrivals, into I think either LGA or EWR. And then all the possible diverts as well. She's a 6' tall blonde former fighter pilot and former model, who rides dirt bikes and spends most of her time skiing in the Alps. Old guy must have just wanted to listen to her talk I guess......was probably confused by her in general. She also bid for 220 CA successfully in your last position bid, with like 200 hrs of 121 time :D

You're only a cool SEA person if you have Blundstones. Particularly if you wear them when you come up to "the country" up my way, for a fun weekend getaway with hay bales, making the plaid shirts rain, and $2000 worth of gear from REI. Double the points if you arrive in either a Tesla, or a kitted out Sprinter van. So cool
I’m super tempted to just wear Xtratufs on a SE trip when the new uniforms come out. I’m starting to see a lot of Blundstones in AK too, also Fjalraven pants.

this might get me run out of the state, but tufs suck. Bogs are where it’s at.
I made the mistake of wearing tufs day one on my moose hunt this year and my big toes are still numb :bounce:. I’m actually more of a Muckboot fan myself (for 100% waterproof non-hiking/gortex boots). If Xtratuf made shark bytes in black I’d wear them for work in a heartbeat.

Tufs have zero grip in ice and snow, they’re cold in the winter and sweaty in summer, no cushion or contour to the insole…

They were the knee boots I had on hand at the time. They are great for wearing on a fishing boat, which is what they were designed for. But they are not good at anything else.

So in other words they're exactly like the Ariat Ropers that Alec was swearing by a couple pages ago? Tried those for two winters to see what all the cowboy boot hype was about. After the third time I nearly busted my ass on the walk from the parking lot and one time I actually did, I switched to a pair of Merrell chelsea style boots and never looked back. Suddenly my feet were warm in winter and I had traction, amazing.

Even going into Sitka and some of the smaller strips up yonder in the Ocho, you don't need 40?

No. If the runway isn't overly contaminated, you won't need flaps 40. In the dry, distance is kinda negligible and doesn't change a whole lot if it's just wet. People get wrapped around the axle about landing distance often for no good reason. I dunno, do whatever floats your boat. I'm gonna judge you either way. :D

Pardon the delayed reply, I was busy doing my part to lower the supply of beer in Munich all week.

Uniform compliant or only arctic uniform compliant? I gotta start shopping

Uniform compliance is only something that matters to the FAs here (I totally didn't just say that). :D

In all seriousness, the only requirement stated in the manuals for boots are they be "leather dress black, plain toe, with no buckles." "Smooth leather" is only required for shoes, so that basically rules out Bogs and Tufs, but damn near everything else is fair game. The Merrells check the box. So will Blunnies.

Did an out and back from PAJN to PAGS (not quite as cool as PAWG) on an IFR day, and there is only one direction/runway to fly an instrument approach into there. Turned out there was a 20+ kt tailwind that wasn't being reported, I suppose more of a pattern alt wind than surface. Anyway, that was a real fun one. No runway contamination or other weirdness, but I put it down right on the captain bars and we stopped just fine with my manual brake feet and TRs/spoilers, like way before the end. Mostly empty 700 with light gas load is pretty fun.

I like Fjällräven, but mostly because nothing named after an arctic fox can be bad!
