Airshow performers

Wow. You wanted to get out THAT bad, huh? Lol.

Sorry about the arm.

Yep.. End of a 4 day.. I did NOT want to go to Columbia.. ;)

You fell out.... Well Thats the first time I have heard that one...

Yep.. Took a header off the stairs.. Caught my fall on the last stair with my right elbow.. Breaking it in 3 places.. My left arm got lucky and barely broke it. A plate and 7 screws and I'm working on getting better.. :)

The best times that I've had in airplanes are times I wouldn't tell my therapist (er, if I had one) about. Let alone the mfing internet. Suffice it to say that you can do stuff without Official Approval, and survive. But you probably shouldn't, because in this day and age, someoone will probaby be looking to git ya, and feel massively self-righteous in doing so, however many ethical contortions they must go through to explain it. Fly the numbers, screw a few ladies, deal with a few lawsuits, follow the rules. What you may possibly have missed will be made up for in the Court's kindly judgment and your knowledge that at least you drove between the lines. Unlike everyone else.

the tsa is gonna love you and your metal arm now...

If I ever have the money to invest in it, its always been high up on the list of things I want to do.

More like the money to spend in it.. I doubt it's much of an investment..

I have no desire to be an airshow pilot. Too many of those guys die in their cockpits.. In the last 5 years look at all those who have died.. I mean, just look at the "Masters of Disaster." Jimmy, Bobby, Jim and Skip.. Looks who's left. Then the kids take over for Jimmy and Bobby.. Look who is left. No thanks.

I remember the first time my pops saw Bobby and Jimmy do their act at OSH in 2003ish.. The first words out of his mouth were "Those guys are gonna die doing that..." I've only heard my dad say that about 3 people. They're all dead..

I love to fly aerobatics, and I'd like to fly more than I get to. I'd love to own a fully aerobatic ship one day. I have zero desire to be an airshow guy.. You just have to push it further and further, unless you can be happy to play the drunk farmer in a Cub, which, that might be my sorta airshow gig, but still not interested..

FWIW, Jimmy Franklin was doing multi-aircraft 'dogfighting' airshow acro acts back into the 80s -- Elliot Cross, Jim Franklin, and John Kazian.

Only took him 30ish years to get dead doing it.. Not a bad run, I suppose.

Even with the deaths its something I want to do... Being bale to share flying like that with aviation enthusiasts and entertain the people they bring is pretty cool. Something I would love to do.

Well don't let anything stop you. I'm sure it'd be awesome to do..

Don't forget that both Elliot Cross and Johnny Kazian didn't.

And yet, so many more pilots have died in less time doing less "dangerous" things.

The fact is this: most airshow pilots of that caliber do things that appear risky to viewers, but are actually well thought out, well planned, and very precisely and carefully executed.

Thanks man... One day when I make it big I will get you all in my shows for free!

You da man. :)

You really have an answer for EVERYTHING, don't you? :) I don't think I mentioned Cross or Kazian. I mentioned the "original" members of Masters of Disaster. 3 of the 4 are dead. As is Younkin's daughter..

Well, yes.. People also die during their mundane commute to their job in a high rise.. I'd be curious to read a study of "peoples who died while practicing their vocation." I would bet airshow performers might rank right up there with miners, police officers and other more dangerous jobs. I didn't say all of them die. I said a lot of them do. You can't argue that.

Hacker, man, why do you ALWAYS speak to the rest of us as though we are totally clueless to the world of aviation?

What, exactly, is someone supposed to say to such a question? Not only is it a loaded question, but begs the question, too. Well done...I think.
