Airlines with Co-Domicile Ops

9E pilots are being asked to do a co-domicile with JFK / LGA. Our MEC has given the negotiating committee approval to open up negotiations with the company to allow co-domicile. Currently our contract does not allow it.

Those airlines that currently allow co-domicile, what contractual provisions are there to help in the obvious PITA situation this could make for crew members?

Oh trust me, unless they plan on reinstating pre-bankruptcy pay rates then I don't want any of this. I'm assuming they'll ask for some useless thing in return with a lot of loopholes that make it impossible for us to even use.
 
And so what does the pilot group do if they do not have their opportunity to express their approval or disapproval of such monstrosity? How would they react if the MEC makes an agreement that is counter to the wishes of the collective?
 
Yeah, the only airline I know of that does something like that is Virgin, and they are obviously non-union.

Yeah...Eagle and Delta do it. I'm sure there are others.

Eagle you have to cover JFK and LGA I know. Delta you have to cover all 3 NYC airports.

VERY shortsighted gents. There are some folks who would LOVE a LGA domicile as it would shorten their drive to get to work, easier to commute to, etc.

Obviously, don't give it to the company for free, but don't be ridiculous and draw a line in the sand for pre-bankruptcy rates back to allow it.

Doesn't work that way.

You can only begin and end trips at the origin airport of the pairing in co-domicle contract language.
 
If the company wants it, make them pay for it.

LGA/JFK/EWR seems like a nightmare, especially for "locals".

We have that with Southernjets, but most of us commute in the NYC base.
 
Some 'locals' may prefer trips from EWR or LGA though instead of JFK.

It does open up a lot more flexibility for crew members.

I'm concerned about reserves. If a reserve is living up in Brooklyn and has to cover a trip in EWR on short call, he's already hosed.

The company wants it, let them sweeten the pot.

In the union lunch today, they were talking about this very issue. From what it sounds like IF we do get some pay back for this, it likely won't be much. They also mentioned adjusting PBS credit for STT and vacation, things like that. They made it sound like they were leaning more towards that then any sort of pay restoration. MEC chair JA even said a couple weeks ago that he doesn't expect better pay for co-domicile either.

Then let the company open a LGA base separate of JFK, I say.
