AirlineApps: “Why Haven’t I Heard Anything”

And the best part about it is the lack of Texans. Taxes over Texans any day.

Agree. Have you seen what they pay in property tax tho? Hot damn.

I even own property outside of Dallas and have no intention of even looking at it. Eww.

Texas feels like the 22 year old revving his Honda at the stop light expecting you to race him, and wants to redefine your indifference as some sort of jealousy.

Ok but please god don’t give him the nomination
F you. Gavin Newsom for President 2028!, is there a link to donate to the campaign? He's stirring the pot but he's way too early in the game and his record is cannon fodder to any serious democrat opponent for the nomination. He's a handsome fellow but I think even the left is getting tired of it. It doesn't really matter, you as a democrat will not choose your candidate, they'll be chosen for you and you will have to support them, even if it's Gavin Newsom. That's the big tent you live in.

How much property and where? What were the property taxes last year? If you hate Texas you should sell it. Because you hate Texas.

Oh sugar, wouldn't you like to know? :) East of Dallas in Rains County.

And I also own a significant amount of property in Alabama as well. Alabama > Texas, by far. It can be backwards, but not proudly backwards like Texas.

So you invest in places you hate? If it makes sense at tax time I guess it makes sense for you. It'll be odd hearing you talking about CC chasing dollars.

I don’t want to blow your mind or anything, but wait till you hear about this place called…California.

Housing costs, state income, and SDI wave hi ;)

But you have a point. It’s 60 deg in Torrance now. At my in-laws in MI it is -2 deg Fah and in my family PA is +2 deg Fah. I just cringe when I hear “you pay for the weather here” because it’s not like politicians invented the weather here.

That's totally worth the commute!

Also, I'll have you know, I just spent most of my commute back home from meetings trying to figure out what pond you lived on. I was thinking Lake Dunmore originally, but then realized the scale was all wrong. Took another 2 hours, but the island and lone tree on the point finally gave it away!

Smugglers was always my backup if I didn't ski Sugarbush... that whole area is amazingly nice.
Haha, seems a worthy commute exercise! :D

I've always made an effort to be diligent and conscientious, but every now and then I'll think of one or two instances from my time building days 10-15 years ago and still get a shiver down my spine.

I flew into PHX in November. I looked out the window at the mountains north of the Valley and thought, wow, I flew over these in a Cessna at night once. My risk/reward threshold is much different these days… ‘Short runway, big trees, 1 engine… BAD.”

Yeah, once you fly jets, and get older, and wiser, it changes you attitude. I have a Cherokee but only put 20 hours on it between annuals. No night flying, no flying if it's colder than 50 (I don't like the cold), no flying over forests, no flying over densly populated areas, and only fly over flat land (well, the Palouse is sorta flat).

Having great neighbors is awesome, it makes such a difference in your quality of life.
Great neighbor may mean different things to different people. I'd love to have the space @Cruise does. The only relationship I want with my neighbors is a friendly wave, a surface level conversation, assure mutual safety, and generally otherwise forget theyre around. Thats a good relationship to me. Dont be showing up on my door step with a bottle of whiskey and asking if I want to hang, I do not. :) ---Maybe I should put up an "Beware of Introvert" sign on the front porch.

Some people have good reasons to commute, some do not. For those new to an a career airline, I would advise pulling the bandaid off and moving from the city your old airline had you based in. You give up alot commuting, its not just the leg on the beginning and end of the trip. Moving to a base I like has been the greatest QOL improvement decision I ever made. Having kids certaintly plays into this decision. I think if youre commuting to a widebody, it makes less difference because (at least europe) is set up nicely for a commuter and there really arent a plethora of one day trips to round out the schedule. You're basically going on a 3-day trip each week with a late start on day 1 and a mid-day arrival on day 3 (at least here anyway). Once this kids leave the nest, I/we are going to be re-evaluating where we go, I'd love to split time between two places, one being the mountains in NC with some land.

Taxes: Its almost a reflex at my airline if you mention living in NC, theyd mention something about taxes cheaper in SC. That may be true in some sense, but the states going to get the revenue from you somewhere. Whether you pay it in car taxes, property taxes, sales etc etc.. Splitting hairs between low tax states. CA taxes (and maybe NorthE) are likely a different animal.

Different strokes 4 different folks but these are my opinions.

Where is the property "outside of Dallas?

Also, obligatory anti-Texite response, as well as a "Not all Texans" rejoinder. Or even "most Texans". But you'd have to go some places here I doubt you've been to get the full picture. We could do a road trip.

That actually happened to me once. The previous owner of where I live during a town festival. I politely declined.

It appears to be stuck between the rednecks of Greenville, and the rednecks of Canton…. Best of both worlds!
🤣
Having said that, though, Superbowl Speedway in Greenville can be a fun place on a Saturday night.
