Airline Dispatcher Jobs

I finally got my airline dispatcher certificate and now I am just wondering where to work. I heard that it takes two years before a dispatcher is qualified to work for a major airline. I know that some of the airlines only hire from within too. I applied to Mesa Airlines today since I would like to stay in Phoenix. If I don't hear back from them, than I might move to a different city. If anyone has any input on this career, post away!

Mav, have you PM'ed Willnotflyforfood, or Willflyforfood. I don't know what Greg's login is anymore. He is a dispatcher for SKYW and lives in SGU

jbp1 is a dispatcher at a US express carrier. Just make sure you don't insult texas football and he'll talk to you.

Mesa? $10.26/hour? There are better paying dispatcher jobs out there. As far as getting on with a major-whatever they told you about the 2 years part 121 exper. requirement is a crock- Most majors will hire a dispatcher with less than 5 yrs 121 exp. as an assistant dispatcher and then IF a Dispatcher position opens up the assistant dispatcher can then bid into the dispatcher position.

Check out NetJets in CMH. They pay really well (like $36k/yr starting out) the only problem is no flight bennies. PSA may still be looking for dispatchers in DAY. Avoid ExpressJet (like going to bootcamp) and GreatLakes (interviewed there-that place is pretty sketchy) as well as ASA and Comair (the whole Delta bankruptcy thing).

Skywest is good and so is Horizon if you can get through their initial interview process (you can't have been around any tobacco product within the past six months or something like that). If you can stand working for AMR, American Eagle is still hiring dispatchers. There are also plenty of Part 135 operators that will pay more than a Regional. Good luck in the job hunt.

what up B,

Whats wrong with xjt? Did you interview there? Why dont you come on over to Pinnacle? Its great. haha....I wouldnt do that to you, i like you too much. ha..i hope all is well. i have been reading all kinds of rumors about PSA.....voluntary leaves/furloughs/parking planes....hopefully its all crap. good luck. Can Dispatchers jumpseat?

blee, they're still letting you fly? Have you seen Rush lately? I haven't heard anything about voluntary furloughs, but I do know that the leases on 10 CRJ2's is coming up, but I have heard several rumors as to what is going to happen with them. The biggest one seems to be that they are going to Piedmont and were are replacing them with CRJ7's, but it's all rumors, so who knows.

Is it cold at MSP yet?

I received my Dispatcher certificate back in August and am a flight coordinator for a large charter/managed aircraft company out of KPTK. I was actually hired the week before my dispatch class finished! During the last two days of my dispatch class, we had Flight Options interviewing candidates on site. Turns out they hired 3 or 4 out of 10 in the class. I am constantly seeing flight operations jobs for NetJets and Flight Options, etc. I think a lot of people only focus on 121 operations because they want flight benefits, but a lot of the 91 and 135 operations have great starting pay and some additional benefits. And at this moment in time, these companies are a lot stronger and more financially secure. It's definitely something to look into. Sure, in a 91 or 135 operation you might have to deal with catering or other requests but there are also a wide variety of airports and people that you get to deal with on a daily basis. I was able to get a ride in a G-III during a training flight on my first day, not too bad if you ask me. We also routinely send our G-IV's and V's over to Asia, Europe, and South America. It's great experience for International Operations. I loved having flight benefits when I worked as a ramper/gate agent but am definitely enjoying the great salary and variety of experience I am getting in the Corporate aviation world.

Keep your options open and look at all there is to offer. Please feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.
