Say what?

Why would there be an need to see my taxes for the past 10 years? We already know my McD job paid more and had better benefits.

I guess a 1099 or W-2 is less invasive than a credit check but I would have problems with someone asking for my full return.

Airline Apps SUCKS! I wish they would just go away. You really have to pay to get a job? Yeah right. I hate airline apps so much that my career choices are based which company to apply for thats not on AA. This is why pilots make nothing, because their dumb enough to pay to get a job. Come on guys, get some self respect and join the one man boycott of Airline Craps.com.

Uhh XJT required tax returns before they transitioned to Airline Apps so it has nothing to do with them. It's an XJT requirement that was there when I was interviewed in 2004. The tax returns as I understood it then were used for the background check and employment verification that is done after you are hired. It wasn't part of any prehire screening.

Personally I LOVE Airline Apps because it was such a complete application that all of my info was in one place and easily updated. I could actually go into Airline Apps and copy the relevant info into a non AA application for say FedEX or NWA (back in the day). It saved me boatloads of time entering and updating info on various applications. I found it worth every penny.

But hey, if saving a few bucks for a service provided makes you happy and prevents you from applying to United and Delta, I guess your would be competition should just quietly smile and say thank you.

Yeah I guess its more of just the underlying principle. Its kind of like saying get taken advantage of now, so that later will be better...oh wait, crap!, I choose the wrong profession.

Seems a bit intrusive to me. I'd probably go through and redact a bunch of stuff before I turned it over to them.
FWIW, when I interviewed at Toffie Terrace, they didn't ask me for tax paperwork.

I'm not necessarily loathe to comply with such a request, but I might have a hint of "none of your business" in it too.

I suspect that they're simply verifying that you filed the return, not how much you made, your deductions, etc. Give them the front pages and be prepared to sign an affidavit that they were filed as indicated.

If I were the prospective employer requesting your returns, I'd ask you to sign a release allowing me to contact the IRS so I could verify that the returns were filed. Why? Because anybody can find a 2004 Form 1040 online, fill it out and turn it in, and it appears that you filed your return on time 10 years ago, even though you didn't. Kinda like saying that you don't have any history of accidents, incidents or investigations, but as your prospective employer I'm going to get something on FAA letterhead that says so.

how do you get around this if you had a job working for your family or something along those lines and it was not taxed?

I remember coughing up my tax returns to XJT as part of the back ground check requirement. I dont believe it was for a full 10 years worth though.

You know Airline Apps can be free right?

Right or wrong, pilots have been paying to have an app on file prior to the Internet. What I dislike is that you have to pay yearly.

The two guys that created it are personal friends. I'm sure I'll get some feedback for you guys.
