Airforce One Special

So I am watching it... and my first question is for any enroute controllers... when AF1 comes through your airspace... is there someone specifically assigned to it alone or does it pass through each sector like any other craft?

Like I am going to be able to get an answer to that on a publc forum... LOL... I guess I'll just have to wait to train.

The other day Air Force One overflew Dulles. We asked the ground control if we really did see AF1 just cross over. All the controller did was double click the mic.

I think its amazing at how ill-eqipped the aircraft was on Sept 11th. Alot of people gave Bush #### for taking so long to address the public on Sept 11th, but really it was just because he was being protected and had no way of speaking publicly.
 
"When you attack Air Force One, you attack America.". I dunno, I guess it seems that a statement like that would give bad people more motivation to do just that. Hey but whatever, I'm hust sayin'. :whatever:
 
That's awesome that AF1 was a "Gulfstream" for the trip to Iraq.

Even better is the pilot who asked if that was AF1 and the controller said no, it's a Gulfstream.

Where I worked, it passed through each sector like any other aircraft. Whoever was at the sector at the time worked it through. No specific staffing assignments were ever made that I know of. Also, a supe or CIC was required to visually and aurally monitor the flight through the facility so the Supes were kept busy plugging in and unplugging from sector to sector.

Imagine being a worker on the "classified" field when the back up 74 lands and pulls up to what I would assume would be an FBO style place to hang out for a few hours.
 
It was a very good show, I'm glad is was nothing like that other one they show all the time. Not that the other one is bad, I'm just tired of seeing it over and over:laff: Not to derail this thread, I was really happy to see Obama on Air Force One at the end.

I would be surprised if at the time it was filmed, he was actually president. In fact it couldn't have been since they said they were picking him up from Chicago.

It wasnt the 74 either, it looked more like the 73.

Interesting... does it require increased seperation? AND does it have to follow the 'highways'?

I figured the same and they still announced him as the president elect, but hey, I didn't want rain on my own parade:D

It was indeed not the 747 but I believe the 757 that they fly. The scene was prior to the Inauguration and they were taking then President Elect Obama to Washington.
 
So here's my question: If the president decides to take flght lesson's does a cessna 172 et al, become Airforce 1? Better yet, if he's on his solo flight, does he announce "air force 1 - student pilot with information Bravo taxi to the active"?

Does the govt. set up a TFR for when the president schedules flight training ????

George W came to my home airport in 2003 in the 75. The 74 was too heavy for our taxiway. Anyway, I missed the episode, hope it replays soon!
 
Anyone else notice how clean the AF maintenance guys were compared to the Marines?

it's my understanding that in the event that the President boards a civilian aircraft its becomes Civilian One.

And I believe Dubya was the first to ever fly on Navy One when he landed on the aircraft carrier. Not trying to open a new discussion on that, but just saying.
