Airbus Tech Support Desk is OPEN

All of ours have carbon, but I’m not too sure.

I’ve flown with both steel brakes (older 767’s) and carbon brakes, I think they’d have a little more purchase than the steel brakes.

I haven’t been able to have a direct comparison to the steel versus carbon brakes on the 320 series. Carbons do get spicy, but I think so did the ER’s with steel.

Favorite headset in the Airbus? Do you use an adapter or have a dedicated XLR set? Please don't tell me you use the nasty ass ship set...

XLR Plug QC 35 II's with UFLYMIC. Love them and I don't have to use the crappy dogged out 750's with the missing mic muffs.

Our ship sets are slowly being replaced with the 850s, and I have to admit I kind of like it… I think it has just about the right amount of ANR.

someone found 850's? I thought the 850's were discontinued a couple of years ago.

I use the ship set. Clean them with a sanicom for every new plane and never had an issue. I take them off through 18,000. Some guys bring big Bose ANR and leave them on the whole time. To each their own, I don’t wear headsets during cruise the bus is too quiet for that.

IMO Sanicom's are a feel good wipe. I don't think they kill much. Matrix 3 wipes I've seen on Delta. Some of the other airlines have hospital grade wipes now.

Just curious (dont know much about 727s)... Is there a reason why the middle engine EPR is much lower than the number 1 or 3? Again I'm ignorant of how this plane is flown or managed.

This was a Super 727-200 it has JT8D-217’s on Engine 1 and 3 and a JT8D-17 in number 2. The -217 was too big to fit in the #2 position.

IIRC We would set cruise thrust on engine 1 and 3 and then match #2 to the N1 of engine 1 and 3. This resulted in lower EPR on 2. Eng 1 & 3 had more power and also more bypass air as well. They were also slightly more fuel efficient engines too. So Engine 1 and 3 would do the bulk of the work in cruise.

The -217 had a bypass ration of about 1.5:1. The original 727 engine had a bypass ration of 1:1 or slightly less on the smaller.

The 727-100 / 200 could run

JT8D -7B, -9A, -15, -17A, 17R

The super -200 ran
Engine 1 & 3 were -217 or -219
Engine 2 was -17

The 727 is a great bird and I wish I could have flown her in the passenger days. We also had good crews too.
