Air Tran/SWA Welcome Booklet

I, uh, wonder how much of that will still be correct after the companies have been synergized upon.

Oh how I would love to work for SWA.. maybe it's biased, but that sure paints a pretty picture for SWA.

"Southwest received 90,043 resumes and hired 831 new employees in 2009."

Damn.

You Air Tran types better be counting your lucky stars.

Did the company or union write that booklet? It was kinda hard to tell.

I think that's a result of the mostly non-antagonistic, functional relationship that has been fostered over the years. Back when the company was smaller they could afford to overlook the small inefficiencies that make life easier and employees happy (e.g., all IT was in-house). Now that they've become heyuuuge are combining employee groups, redundancies will arise and economies of scale cannot be ignored.

This is another summer of crazy oil prices and The Merger, and there is a lot of opportunity to re-invent the way Southwest does things. All the numbers in that booklet (and similar stuff for the other 9-out-of-10 employees at the airline) could all be different two years from now, depending on the agreements being made soon.

Could use a proofreader:

"Commuter policy requires only one available flight,
even when communiting on other airlines."

Expecting more from a bullet point on a pamphlet?

That answered some questions I had about SWA average duty times and average trips. Honestly I expected the worst.
