Age 67 legislation reintroduced

Practicalities not-withstanding, how f***king pathetic do you have to be as a human being to want to stick around for another 2 years doing this job past 65? Have fun burning up your golden years explaining to Tammy in Terminal C how to get to gate C12. Good lord. If it is finances driving this, you are a dumb ass and deserve to be force retired at 65 and struggle. Shoulda thought about that back then.

Every single time this gets brought up I think about how frequently I look burnt out and over it walking through the throngs of terminal C. Then I try to imagine my 66 year old ass STILL fighting my way through the gate lice pulling my 45 pounds of suitcase just so I can spend another night alone in a Marriott trying to convince myself that .4 miles is NOT to far to walk for a god damn Chipotle.

No thank you. Just. No.

41 days vacation. That’s one vacation week for 8 months of the year, flying maybe 5-6 days total?

And the other 4 months flying 9-10 days total.

To make 500k each yr, 1 million total for 2 yrs.

IMO, a no brainer - if you can hold a 1st class medical still.

I dunno. Don't get me wrong, I really am not stressed about 65 vs 67. Whatever happens happens, and it'll be fine. But, I do think the mentality is weird. I get that you might view it as free money, which I guess it is for some. But by age 67, I hope to be nearing the end of my first decade of full retirement. I'm speaking more towards time and longevity (in living) than I am money here. You never get that time back. Some certainly won't have anything else to do with that time, which IMO is sad. And the physical long term effects of this lifestyle I think start to compound sometime in your 60's. That's all to say that I'd be happy to sacrifice a million of pre-tax income over that two years, to just enjoy my life and spend it with family and/or doing things I'd much rather do than go through TSA in seatac, and be beholden to a bid award. I already get bid awards that are 10-11 days of work a month (before I have to drop any trips for mil stuff). So that part doesn't move the needle for me. Obviously my vacation time is much less (especially after being pro-rated for mil leave/less than 35 hrs credited on a lot of months)

I guess to each their own. To me, 10 days of flying in a month = 20/21 days off = already semi-retired.

I guess what I'm saying is that this is great when we are in our 40's, young and healthy. If you and I had a trip together, we could probably do wind sprints between gates on a plane change. Or go full Denzel on an overnight (from a physical standpoint, not legal mind you :) ). When you're in your 60's, especially middle/late 60's, people start needing lots of naps. Life slows down. So I guess I don't want to be slogging the bag around airports for work at that point. Maybe I'd find a cool balance where I fly day trips, don't bring a bag, and its all awesome, I dunno. But I'd rather have all my flights in my 60's be for fun......travel, or I guess in my own plane (though I don't really want to own a plane)

the year? 2057. derg has long since hung up the spurs moderating the forum after the Woke Internet Seizure Act (brought to you by Carl’s Junior) of 2049. the server shuts down at midnight PST to mine the new US currency, $hartcoin, after Barron Trump has crashed Dogecoin, Fartcoin and Kirkthereum in 2050, 2053 and 2055- the result of imposing tariffs on a highly intelligent bacterium on Mars and spending half the federal budget on home depot gold leaf for the recently completed whitehouse ballroom. mft continues posting youtube videos about his weed gummie streams of consciousness, in threads that CC started to document his monthly posts about how much he credited on reserve while his great grandchildren were born during a pickup on days off.

You're making a few assumptions there. I won't advocate for this change, but I'd probably stick around if I could. Career changer and financial devastation from wife's cancer put us pretty far behind on retirement. We'll be fine either way, but it's not so cut and dry.

Let’s be real-most of us won’t experience those last 2 years of free money because robots will be flying planes by then. I’ve seen Cherokees retirement date, I don’t think he or I will go to 67 regardless of what the rules are

I’ll push your ass in the wheelchair down to C22 when you’re 66 1/2 😆

Ok I will concede that there are exceptions to my generalizations. And of course, if you really do love doing this at 65 and want to do it for another 2 years, it's really none of my business. But it just seems sucky and crazy from my perspective. Totally understand the cancer part, sorry to hear that. Hope she is doing better?

She’s doing great. 18 years ago but we didn’t have insurance so bankruptcy and the whole deal. We’re catching up. I wouldn’t think of it if I couldn’t keep doing what I’m doing with reserve or some kind of amazing line by then.

2049? Just in time for the Boeing 737 MAX 14. Still flown with two pilots and the same overhead panel.
