Aerial Survey (about that time again)

Just getting a thread going again on the topic. I can't speak of how many positions will be open @ all the picto companies but there should be movement with all the regionals hiring again.

Companies that do picto (octish - mayish) usually start looking in august.

Air america
Desert winds
Landcare aviation
Northern states

They all operate a little different. All the ventors fly a fleet of cessna 172’s. AA, DW, LAI have aztecs.

I'm very opinionated over the vendors so I will be quiet. I have very positive things to say about the job. I'm sure others will post more. I have moved on and enjoyed my many seasons, saw the country low and slow. Can't say I would change how I built my time. It can make you into a good pilot and will make you good on the radio.

Use the search function and good luck to all that apply!

I don't think I would change how I built my time either. Fast time building, quite good pay, have seen most of the lower 48 low and slow, also been in or around most all the weather the lower 48 can have.
I heard a rumor our company needs a few ;).

If you just hit 500 - 1500 TT and are single, this is the job for you. Good QOL, Great Pay, Great Hours. I'm married and "old" now so I'm out. If you're young though go for it!

How hard is it to get the aztecs?

it goes to the guys that already work for the company...you usually need to put in 1-2 years at the company before you can get an aztec slot...

so the chances of getting one as a new hire....nearly 0% chance...actually it is 0%....

At what TT do these companies look to hire people?

from wet commercial - 700ish

around 300-500 TT is usually what the look for, they don't like higher time pilots because they end up bailing for something better

I was hired at 550

From what I was told this is very true. One the guys at our glider club did this for a year. He had like 1500 when hired but on the application he only put 600 so they wouldnt throw his app out. Said they never looked at his logbook when hired so it never was an issue.

Whats it take to get hired by one of these outfits? I know a lot of guys that have applied but no one ever gets hired. Do they hire mostly local? I think I remember them liking to hire guys with A&P experience.

An internal rec mostly. Of all our pilots last year, one just kinda of happened to have an A&P. He helped with mx, but was in no way responsible for it.

Clear skies! No turbulence!

Sounds like something I would definitely be interested in doing except I have no where near the 500 mins.
~260+ at best.

http://www.airamericafc.com/imaging/ if you think about calling AA you are just calling the flight school desk and it will most likely not help in any way. They will just get in touch with you via phone number on your resume.

AA and LAI will hire with less than 500tt. I can't speak for the other 2, but I think their mins are hard insurance mins. I don't think that DWAS has a website but their chief pilot is on here and seems to be nice. Pilotbry is his user name.

Has Landcare already begun hiring for the season? Landcare sends out an emial with an application attached, has anyone gotten it? I know NSA is already contacting applicants from whats being posted on APC.

A friend of mine applied to Landcare in June. He just got a call this weekend and they sent him an e-mail with the "official application." He has around ~350TT.

I might be too late this year but I'm looking to apply regardless in the next few weeks with ~250TT as soon as I get my CFI. I'll probably apply to AA too since I used to rent planes from there back in my DAB days.

Back in '08 Landcare was $400/week plus a $25 daily room bonus if you shared a room. Rental cars went on a company card.

When I interviewed with AA it was $20 an hour with a 2.5 hour daily guarantee. $130/day per diem and you take care of all hotel and rental car expenses.
