yeah that's what i'm assuming. i guess we can't go though until all the leaves fall in the northeast, and all the planes get the computers installed. who knows when that will be but they were talking late oct/early nov. looking forward to working w/everyone, and will notify when i get the letter in the mail.
 
Yeah I guess by it's very nature you can't put a specific date on when a good time is to begin photographing. I'm just anxious to get something in writing because it all feels very "unofficial" to me...I just like knowing things for sure. :D

Congrats to all of the JC's who got hired on with RAMS! Don't worry about the training books and welcome letter. You won't get them until the of end Sept. The training books come from Pictomerty, which is who you will be working for. Besides most of you will not understand :drool:the books until you get to ROC and see it for yourself.
Also Remember that you will be on the road for 7 Months!!!! Just to give you a heads up! Carol will be your mother during that time so do not take her kindness for weakness and all will go well! Do Not, Do Not call Jonathan! He has a million things to deal with, and he hired you because you can do the job for 7 months without anybody holding your hand!!!:banghead:
You can expect to hit the road around the end of Oct- early Nov! There will be many issues such as MX, WX,and Computer S??t, Also you will not get paid per diem until you hit the road so if you can save up alot of cash to hold you over until your first pay check the better! Me and a few other pilots were dead broke by the time we got our first pay check.
RAMS is a great company and the best in the bizz. The bosses will take care of you anyway they can so in turn all of the pilots gave 110% in and out of the cockpit.

If anybody is interested I will compose a list of things to pack and to bring along with you for the season, just let me Know!:bandit:

I was hired today after my afternoon interview. Jonathan told me before we got out of the plane that he liked my flying and wanted me on. Carol called me before I left the airport and gave me my formal offer.

There is one thing I want to make a huge point of, a big thanks goes out to Doug for running such a great site for the aviation community and it really shows when half of a company's roster is coming straight out of JC.

I was told I'm #7, one more left...

Thanks for the great info. A list would be awesome! I'm investing in an ANR headset and will be borrowing a 496 and paying for the XM weather and radio. Any pointers from someone who's been there would be much appreciated!

I feel the same way. Nothing against them just a pet peeve of mine I guess. I'm moving back to ROC in 2 weeks. I'm worried that it will get mixed up in the mail.

Something tells me I am going to be having a party at my house.

Same here. I picked up a Lowrance Airmap 200, black and white but it was only 200 bucks and will keep me out of airspace well enough.

Been thinking about ANR but I need to at least connect my iPod to my headset.

Sporty's sells this thing for $99 that lets you connect any audio device or cell phone and automatically mutes it when receiving or transmitting over the radio. I've looked at that, just seems like there could be a cheaper way...oh well.

I just got a BlackBerry to so I can keep I contact with family and use it to connect my laptop to the net.
 
congrats to #7, can't believe how many are getting hired off of this website. would love a list of things that you brought last year or a list of things to bring. as for the lowrance 200, let me know where you got it, very interested in something like that, or at the very least a moving map type deal so i don't have to buy sectional charts every single week.
Also, very interested in that audio device for $99, but probably won't buy it until i get that 1st paycheck.
Really looking forward to meeting up w/everyone, keep me posted on that party in ROC.
 
One thing I didn't get into but thought about earlier was what is the actual payload space you have for your bag. It was a little difficult to visualize since none of the equipment was in the plane at the time. Seemed like just the rear bulkhead towards the tail was not taken up.
 
I'm not sure about the specific space but I looked over the W&B and the equipment only adds about 220lbs so theres still around 400lbs usable if you're average weight. He said that guys have packed a couple huge duffel bags of clothes and whatnot so I'd assume there's adequate space for that. Carol told me one of the guys from past years got teased for the amount of stuff he packed...including a blow-dryer. :laff: Sounds like it shouldn't be an issue.
 
a blow dryer?? boy, i was getting nervous as to the stuff i could bring but sounds like it's a no-issue now. but yeah, i saw that rear bulkhead wasn't taking up any space so i was going to put my stuff up there, long as it doesn't weight more than 50lbs (placard).
 
Congrats to all that are joining the RAMS team! Don't worry about your luggage, you will have some space behind the right seat and all of the space forward of that to put your bags. Yes, there was a guy that traveled with everything and the kitchen sink and didn't have a problem. Last year the company provided a GPS for all of the pilots so I would check on that before spending any money. This is going to be a great experience and the friendships you will make will last a life time! Mike hit me with a PM and let me know what you have been up to, and great job helping these guys get on!
 
I'm looking forward to meeting everybody next month when we get there.. I've talked to Champcar a bit, anybody else hired shoot me a PM so we can talk.
 
I believe he told me they were Garmin 195's. It's an older B&W unit but for VFR situational awareness it should be just fine.
 
The company I'm working for provides us with 196 and they pay for the updates. We are also contractors for Pictometry.

Ps. Don't forget to get the GPS updated
