Hey guys and girls, anyone here know about helicopter pilot jobs for say the news stations or anyone else, not including LE? What do they look for?I'm Commercial/ASEL doing my multi. Been wanting to do helicopters for a whil now. I'm looking to see what I can do to continue flying and not have to suffer a major financial set back. I love flying and don't know of anything else I can do for a living but that..If you can, please post on my other advice question. Thanks for the hlep.

J/K From what I hear heli training is very expensive, so if you want to get paid to fly them from the start I would join the service and let Uncle Sam flip the bill.

Good luck!

YEAH....Thought about the coast guard, they have the coolest job. Tried to get their scholarship program so that I could eventually fly with them. Even with my good grades, pilot certificates, and good scores, they picked a black guy that applied from the same school as me, with less ratings. I talked to a couple of people with connections in the coasties to investigate for me, since I never got so much as a letter from the •ers saying what happened with my application. A captain looked into it and said he can't see why it didn't go well for me, i had everything they were looking for, just not enough of a minority status i guess. So • the coast guard(for now) , they were incosiderate and unproffesional. It's been two months since I was supposed to receive a letter from them, the recruiter was a piece of sh*t too. thanks for the idea though, if you have anymore let me know please.

Yikes... lol.. relax there man !!! Re-direct all that energy back into getting into OCS and onto flight school if ya really want it badly enough with the Coast Guard.

You can always look into the other branches as well if you go military .. WOFT with the Army etc.... search some thru some older posts.. there are a lot of good ones if I recall correctly...

Good Luck !!

I know the Army wants you! If you like flying in a sandbox...

I also heard that if you pick a helicopter in the Navy there is nothing to stop you becuase every other pilot wants a fixed-wing gig.

Maybe they didn't like your spelling, grammar or attitude?

Anyway, the Coast Guard gets a lot of helo pilots from other military services. My cousin just got on with them about 6 months ago. Prior to that he was a Captain and Blackhawk helo pilot in the Army flying over in Iraq.

alright alright..Perhaps I was venting just a little bit, but what can you expect, with the way things turned out. This isn't my normal attitude (can't help the grammar lol) A300Capt I was just speaking freely. I still try hard and I'm looking for that one opportunity. I aspire to be in your position some day Capt. that's the job I want, with UPS. Well I hope you guys don't get the wrong idea about me, I'm searching for advice and thanks for giving some thus far.

Hey Capt. know of Mike Wilson? I think he flies 757 with you guys, he's a nice guy. Know of a good way to get that first job with UPS without the CFI, 135, 121 stint? How's about that F/E idea? I worked on ups's 727's for a few months at avborne in miami; got to go on a test flight my last day on the job, sweeeeeeeeeeet to say the least. Don't worry, I didn't get close to the A300's lmao!

Thanks man

Hey Ramsey, what is this sandbox you speak of? As long as the said ain't been peed in. Army will take anything that can grip a rifle , so I hear. lol thanks man

Sorry, when I said “sandbox” I was referring to the desert regions of the middle east.

A friend of mine just logged his 770th hour in a Black Hawk over the Iraqi desert - he has been there for 9 months.

wow! that's something. yeah I wouldn't mind joining the armed forces to fly at this time. I'm just concerned for my partner.

thanks man you have anymore advice just post please

Well, at least you handle adversity well, and don't try to blame personal setbacks on others. You are bound to go far!

I don't know Mike Wilson. It looks like he was hired about the time I got off the 75/76 fleet and moved over to the 'Bus.

Not sure what you mean when you ask about "that first job" with UPS? Do you mean "flying" job or another position with UPS? Some low time people have started in other positions with the company and used that as a stepping stone into a flying seat.

I see CFI'ing, 135 and 121 flying as a natural progression to building time and getting on with a major, so unless you go the military route or you're lucky enough to get on with a corporate outfit right out of training, I don't know of any other way.

UPS still requires the F/E written passed. More than likely, a person will be hired into the S/O position on the DC8,B747 or B727 fleets. Based on that, having the F/E written or rating, or better yet, experience as an F/E, would be a plus.

Good luck.

Thanks Capt. I am glad you are responding with some worthwhile thoughts. I figured I'd have to get all that you mentioned for the F/E position. When I said job , I did mean a flying job. I'm glad someone like you is there to give me the word, I appreciate it. Well if you think of anything else please post.

Flyover, are you being sarcastic ? Well I explained my self a little earlier and i'm not using a scapegoat or anything , just moving on trying to find ideas. If you are being sarcastic please don't be, I'm seeking advice from proffesionals here.

Thanks you guys.

Yes I was definitely being sarcastic. Your post was over the top.

I understand blowing off steam. I've been turned down for more jobs than I've been hired for. You've got to let it roll off your back. And in an industry where in 25 years I can count on both hands the number of blacks and females I've flown with you definitely need to get over the "minorities are holding me back c*#p"!

So here's the advice you asked for. There are more knocks headed your way. Either suck it up and keep moving or quit now, it's easier.

Quit now! It is one less person I have to compete with to get a job! J/K man. Maybe it was for the better that you didn't end up with the Coast Guard. Maybe there is something better just around the corner!

Thanks flyover, I know how things are gonna be and that's the way you described it, oh well. I'm getting used to the sucking it up when sh*t sucks lol. I'm not trying to play the minorities crap but that's the only thing that makes sense. Anyways i'm over that chapter, so if you can lend a hand with anymore career moves advice let me know.

Hey aviation freak, that's what I say, always a reason.

Man it's being a sh*tty day today , not because of anything posted on here though.

Thanks guys , keep writing pls.

Are you insinuating that the fact that he was blak was the reason they chose him?

Are you bitter?

Just wondering - my, what you can learn from someone when they're angry!!
