Advice

Yeah, helicopter training indeed is very expensive. The pay isn't what it should be either for all the money you pay for training. I see the companies getting mostly all the money and the pilots very little.

You know, they may have liked the other guy better.

Unless you know for a fact that the other guy got selected to fill an affirmative action spot, I think you might want to rethink insinuating it .

Just a thought.

Hellz yea, the rotor-wing equivalent of the C-150, the Robinson 22, goes for and average of $180/hr wet, and there is no real low-time timebuilding jobs out there for helicopter pilots so you kinda have to lay down the credit card and do some "burning holes in the sky" or dare is say it PFT

I keed I keed. But I am looking to go into my local Police Dept and fill the pilot spot, they fly an MD 902 and some A-Stars the last time I checked so I really just need the liscenses and will leave the time building up to the tax payers

Even with my good grades, pilot certificates, and good scores, they picked a black guy that applied from the same school as me, with less ratings.

Are you insinuating that the fact that he was blak was the reason they chose him?

Are you bitter?

Just wondering - my, what you can learn from someone when they're angry!!

It's been the consensus from a couple of CG officers I've spoken with that takes me to the conclusion i've reached. I'm here to seek advice on a path to achieving marketability as a pilot. I would give you the details on the coast guard thing but It's old news to me and less likely to matter to you anyways. If you have advice for me on what ratings, jobs, training to take to get a job let me know. If you're gonna opinionate on my character, remember that you don't know me, and just skip to another post.

Sorry guys,, posted this one on the wrong thread.

I appreciate the input on helicopter training. Ryan, are you a PD employee? I'm not but that sounds like a wonderful idea you have. Would you happen to know about news station jobs and their requirements?

Tony, I'm really tired of talking about the subject of the CG , Most people on the other post have me all wrong and I don't want to make enemies here. I'm just seeking advice on career moves.

thanks guys

READ THAT YOU MORON. If you're not gonna give me advice don't bother talking on this post. Next time just STFU and find something else to do. I'm getting sick of you.

Dearest Edwin,

You wanted advice. Here's mine. Take a moment or 30 to browse around the board...reflect..soak it in. In doing so, you might come to realize that this board is a lot like a small family. I don't really claim to be a part of it, yet (I'm just a newbie, after all). But I do have half an ounce of sense, and I therefore know better than to jump headlong into a small pool, demand advice from its occupants on how to swim, and then start pi$$ing in that pool. You're not getting anywhere here, man. People skills -- learn 'em.

Ryan -

I do not know what your local department is like, but usually, it takes YEARS as a patrol officer before you can specialize. Phoenix PD's new helo guys are usually ten years on at the time of their selection. If you're doing it for LE, go for it. If you're doing it to fly, I would reconsider.

Yes, I've heard this too, my uncle used to be at the Aviation dept of the police, he wasn't a pilot, and he said the average was less than 5 years as a patrol officer and he said that there is a spot or two open with them right now which doesn't mean anything to me right now but he also said that they are going to be acquiring more helicopters in the near future. As of right now I have no definite long term plans other than I want to get paid to fly, not sure what I want to fly but I'll worry bout that later.

I know that Columbus Police have more helocopters than most other major cities in the country. They operate 20 continually. if you go to www.columbuspolice.org you can look at their support services section for stats reguarding their program. Hop that helps.

Sheesh, you've got a whopping 26 posts and you're already flaming my forum.

A bit of advice, I'd highly suggest opening the ears and closing the mouth when it comes to being a newbie on the board. There is a great wealth of information out there, but behavior such as this when you're brand new is going to get you put on the diseased pariah list pronto.

not only that, but you don't want to piss off the people that might help you get a job in the future... the field is not THAT big and names/faces tend to go around in a hurry...

remember - networking is what it's all about and a good attitude can lend a major helping hand.

now - let's all apologize and group hug...then lets get back to helping you find an answer to your question(s)...

Think of it like this, this site was put together for some very good reasons by some very good people and when you "visit" here treat it as though you are visiting the Taylors' in thier home. The rest of us are all sitting around enjoying the company so relax and tone it down. It may not be what you are saying but rather how you are saying it. Aviators are not holier than thou, but it would serve you well to lose the potty mouth, it's very unprofessionall.

over the weekend at a neighborhood party... find out five minutes before leaving my gf's neighbor's relative is a corporate pilot for General Dynamics... we were all just having a good time just never put two and two together...

It always amazes me how small this community can be at times...

I apologize guys (especially: C650Capt, MTSUAV8ER, DougTaylorI haven't been very open minded on the opinions of others. Yeah I realize now that DCA was not so great after all. THanks TXPILOT for your advice, I never heard of Agcat. Music, you're right and I would like to extend an apology to all of you if I have seemed cantankerous on this forum. I highly value the advice I've read on this forum . If you or anyone else consequently reads this post please ignore my previous posts as I am ashamed that I reacted in such a way. Please don't even think about the Coast Guard Issue, I hold no grudge against them, just feel like they could at least have sent me the letter every candidate is supposed to receive.

Thanks to all of you for your advice and opinions, comments. All these things have helped me better my character and find my faults for the better. Please see my post on the Corporate section of the topics, I am posting there also in case anyone can lend advice.

Thank you, keep posting please. I have reflected on the past and see what you all mean, please give me another chance as I am here to make friends and seek honest advice and opinions.
