Advanced Airline Pilot Programs

My question is what is the fastest way to get to the right seat in a RJ or turboprop for an airline at the age of 19.....I was looking at FSA's site and looking at their Advanced Airline training program.....they say you go through a basic training phase up to COMM Inst MEL, and then LOFT program, and some CRM, ERJ Level D sim, and then get hired.....is this true, and since I'm 19 could i go down and do this now.....RAA has the same thing......if you have your COMM Certificate you can do 5 weeks Intensive training and the 4 weeks at CAE and get a type rating and then get hired.....if i get my COMM cert. next year i could be an airline pilot flying jets for ASA is less than a year?? Some airlines say they require you to be 21....but the guy at RAA said as long as youre 18 and have the ratings you're fine....he told me that an 19 year old got hired flying the saab 340 for colgan......what do ya think......? sales pitch, or truth.....or motivation?????

You better duck. DE727 might have an answer for you....:sarcasm:

I don't think anyone would touch you with a ten foot pole until you're 21.

Thats what i think.....but as i said....this Guy at Reginol Airline acad. (RAA) gave me a name of the person who was hired...as i said 19 years old...saab 340 f/o for Colgan, the ironic part of that is Colgan's job requirment page is the only airline that doesnt list an age requirement.......he had like 500TT another person he was like 30, got hired by AWAC at 424 TT....you get hired then do LOFT, and sim.......gimme some more detailed answers here peeps.......thanks alot......

"My question is what is the fastest way to get to the right seat in a RJ or turboprop for an airline at the age of 19"

I think Gulfstream is fastest. Did you check on them yet? Let me know if you need the URL.

"if you have your COMM Certificate you can do 5 weeks Intensive training and the 4 weeks at CAE and get a type rating and then get hired"?

I don't know. I don't think any respectable JC members have tried this yet. Maybe you can be the first one. Go for it and let us know how it turns out. Maybe between you and Cleared4ILS, I might actually find myself educated in how flight training should be in this brave, new, era in how to become an airline pilot. Let no one say I don't have an open mind.....

"if i get my COMM cert. next year i could be an airline pilot flying jets for ASA is less than a year??"

Dude...YEAH, where ya been? If you got the money you can buy your way into ANYTHING in America today. Even the once sacred thing we used to call being an airline pilot. Times have changed, though. It's not what it used to be. You might never fly anything bigger than an 90 seat RJ and might never make more than 80K a year the way things are going, but dude, you'd be an airline pilot. The uniforms are really cool...especially the hat.

A couple of words of advice for you. Without a college degree, you'll be stuck at the regionals for ever. You might want to look into corporate flying or fractionals. After seeing NJA's recent contract, I'm starting to wonder if a paradigm shift has started in aviation careers where the majors aren't considered the best jobs in aviation? I'm sure a few would say they never were but I think the stereotype has always been that they were.

Anyhow, back to the task at hand. Supercell. You've been spending too much time reading those ads in Flying magazine and not enough time reading how the majority of guys are becoming airline pilots today. Spend more time surfing Jetcareers and burn that magazine.

No believe me, I have spent plenty of time reading and doing my reasearch.....i just wanted to hear some opinions from JCer's. My Professor Capt. R. Collins is a retired ATP from TWA. He was with them for 35 yrs and was the cheif pilot there. He told me to go for a 4-year college degree.....and so have many other people....but i just wanted to see what some JCer's thought about this......what about doing my degree online or finishing it up online...what are your thoughts on that? (also have heard many opinions of this, but want more) Also, again, any info on age "requirements" ? Thanks, I know im a pain in the a**.

P.S......if it wasnt for the cool uniform, and awsome hat i probably wouldn't even consider putting 100K into becoming a pilot:whatever:

Well...okay. I think you will.

"what about doing my degree online or finishing it up online...what are your thoughts on that?"

This is a viable option.

"Thanks, I know im a pain in the a**"

I wouldn't say that, necessarily. Ask away. If you have thick enough skin to get flamed here, at 19, and walk away with no hard feelings but some good answers. I'd say you are doing pretty well.

I don't think you did all your research in regards to searches of past threads. This topic has been covered many, many times. You'll find much advice to form an opinion.
P.S. - Gulfstream is the fastest way!!!

Oooooooh, No you don't!!!!!

Don't start sending them over here.

At least the ATP requirement is weeding it out for now.

I hate the hat.

Get the degree and work on your ratings on the side.

Through the cockpit door...

Sorry couldn't help it :)

I know of a guy who got hired at an airline at 18. Did all of his ratings right after highschool and got hired at about 500TT. It is possible, but I don't know where you find the degree to move on from that point. I mean, it doesn't seem like you have all this time to work on a 4 year degree while working at a regional. I am sure someone will mention that you could manage one of those online degrees though.

My advice, go to a good 4 year school and then get serious about flying after you graduate. Maybe even work on your private during the summers.

If you looked hard enough Hitler could probably give you the name of a Jewish person who supported his dispicable "cause." Not counting the fact he himself was part Jewish, I mean.

Just because you have a name doesn't mean it's the whole truth.

And if you wan't more detailed answers, do a search there are PLENTY of opinions and tons of info on this stuff just sitting around waiting to be read. :p

Supercell, I know it's difficult to understand why all these cool guys with a job you want are telling you to wait on flying (or at least jet flying) and go to college now. I was in the exact same position a year ago - I was absolutely determined to be at a regional airline by the age of 21. I didn't care about college, I just wanted to be behind the yoke of a jet. I would do everything I could to reason to myself why it was better to go to flight school rather than college - this despite the fact that almost every single pilot I talked to said "go to college!" I even started the ATP program, and halfway through the cross-country time-building phase, discontinued. Why? It finally hit me I'd be doing this for forty years, staring at instruments day in and day out. Fun, yes, but ... well it gets kinda old, too. Sometimes I woulda just as soon been on the ground hanging out with friends or playing my Playstation 2. When you're being thrown around by dispatch (or turbulence), forced to sleep in a hotel room far from home, it gets you thinking, "Maybe a 9-5 office job and a weekend 172 would be better after all."

As DE727 said, if you want to fly something bigger than a CRJ someday, you're gonna need a bachelor's degree. Period. As for online school, I've taken two online classes, and I did not enjoy them at all. I won't take any more if I can help it. They are much more difficult than on-campus classes. You can't raise your hand and ask a question. You can't see your professor do sample problems on the board. You can't lean over to the classmate sitting next to you and ask them to explain something.

Obviously, it's a decision you have to make for yourself. But don't make a decision you think you might regret. Enjoy your time NOW - you can't go back, you won't be 19 or 20 again. If you go to college, and enjoy the experience college offers, work on your ratings on the side (or as part of a degree program), and get hired when you're 23 - you'll still have thirty-seven years to stare at instruments.

Thanks for the replies.....but some of you are getting a bit confused.....my question is what is the FASTEST way to the reginols....not the BEST way, as bad as that sounds i was just wondering....im in college now, have my PPL, and working on the INST rating, and i prob. will end up going to college for 2-4 yrs.....but as i said what is the FASTEST way to the reginols...not the BEST way....thanks alot....

Fastest way to become a doctor? Go to a Jamaican medical school.

Seriously, don't continuously ask the same question over and over until you get an answer you like, this isn't that type of a website.

If you want a straight answer from a professional, ask away.

But if you're looking for a 'school counselor'-style answer to a question, this isn't the place.
