AAWW to merge Southern Air into Atlas Air, eyes single AOC

So happy for all my old SAI co-workers. Hoping everything works out for the best for everyone. Still a lot of non-dispatch folks a little worried though. Hopefully they get some more info soon.

To be fair I know basically nothing about Southern...

But Atlas acquired them for $110 million according to that article. How does an airline with five 777s, not to mention other aircraft, get sold for only $110 million?

Hope everything goes smoothly for employees across the board.

Effectively the only thing SOO has in regards to assets are contracts, maybe office equipment, and an operating certificate. Everything else is debt. Those airplanes don't belong to them.

it might be a way for management to get rid of this contract and start with a lower one ? or even start hiring non-unions

before u guys freak out on me, i am not in a union shop and not really sure how unions work in this exact situation

Unless the company went bankrupt there is no legal way they can arbitrarily disregard or unilaterally restructure a collective bargaining agreement. Nothing stopping the company from ASKING, but until a new contract is ratified, this one stays. If the Atlas guys move to Cinci with the paychecks they are getting now, they will find that the culture shock will be well worth the ability to buy an estate.

I can see management trying to treat this as a merger and trying to get a joint vote between the SAI and Atlas dispatchers on whether they want a union or not. If enough Atlas dispatchers dont move, it could tip the balance between the yes and no votes for a union. If the union got voted out, they could reduce Atlas salaries to CVG levels which would reduce costs.

Well, NYC has Broadway and nightlife and tons to do...but do they have a Creationist museum like CVG does?

My suggestion for those moving to CVG. Buy a car you don't care about but is built like a Sherman tank. I've seen drivers in Cincinnati. It's frightening.
