AAWW to merge Southern Air into Atlas Air, eyes single AOC

Please let us know how things turn out with the location decision of the combined SOC. Odd, that with the announcement of combining certificates, that Atlas would not have announced a decision on this. So many people in CVG have been kept in a delicate state of uncertainty about their livelihoods before (ex Comair, Astar, etc.). Though the company might find it best (from a concern of retaining operational manpower approaching a move) until the certificate merger is 6 months or so until completion, I hope so very much that everyone involved, be it in White Plains or CVG, has an answer as soon as possible. Much love to the good folks in CVG I had the pleasure of working with. Same to ex-SOO at HPN.

Regarding the prospect of moving closer to DHL Americas Hub, which I find to be a somewhat insignificant "benefit" in this day and age, I have a hard time believing the much larger company will relocate to CVG even if the cost of living/salary is lower and tax breaks more plentiful. Southern took the opportunity to move for these stated monetary reasons with justification that it was necessary under bankruptcy restructuring.

The unstated reality is also that the move was a somewhat foregone conclusion when Southern brought on the former Comair COO while in Connecticut. This is not typical airline rumor speculation. Too many sources, including those who weren't employed at the time by SOO and overheard very revealing conversations, have verified the intent. An intent which was bolstered very shortly after his hiring by bringing on many ex Comair management types still living in Northern Kentucky and made no effort to relocate to Connecticut.

While it sure is possible that Atlas would relocate their company headquarters, assets, property, and larger workforce who have well-established roots within their present region - I wouldn't consider it probable.

Completely agree. AAWW is in a much different situation than SAI was in when they moved to CVG. It's hard to imagine AAWW risking their entire well established organziation that is already profitable for a big move to CVG. Especially with the Amazon deal now looming. I wish nothing but the best for my former SAI comrads but would encourage them to look for better opportunities that are out there (Unless they want to move to NY).

Well... I have it on good authority that the combined certificate will place maintenance control and dispatch in Florence/CVG. Atlas will still maintain their corporate headquarters in Purchase. No word on when or where a new SOC may be located (Old Comair HQ, present location, etc).

That'll be a tough move (read: culture shock) for the Atlas folks. I think that old Comair GO will be too big for just MX and OCC. Maybe they'll move into the current SAI offices off-airport?

Definitely will be a tough move but I'm honestly happy for the Southern folks that they don't have to move. AGAIN.

I have no sympathy for the Atlas folks I mean come on with their pay and moving to Northern Kentucky. They will be living large.

Their dollars will go a lot farther in the Nasty Natti, or Beaverlick, or Sugartit. That's for sure. :)

Also happy the Southern folks can stay near home.

But they are union so would require a new contract

it might be a way for management to get rid of this contract and start with a lower one ? or even start hiring non-unions

before u guys freak out on me, i am not in a union shop and not really sure how unions work in this exact situation
