AAG: Going for the Bronze

All that changed when PIT OCC shut down. The new guy running the scheduling department hates labor and stands there in Crew News sessions with his smug grin, just dreaming about how he can make our lives miserable.

I could live with going backwards in time operationally. Just something to learn to live with and hope it would change as the merger progressed.

PIT OCC shutting down... the day US Airways really died.

This weekend just hammered home how bad things are down in Mecca.

Legal last leg swap denied for an FA because the scheduler didn't know how to work CatCrew...
Reserve pilots with 6 hours of availability the day we restart operations not notified they were working, and the resulting 30 minute fight just to get changed from deadheading to operating...
Arriving in the outstation and was never informed the FAs didn't make their deadhead out of LGA...

I think this past weekend just showed us the tip of the iceberg on how JC truly plans on running crew scheduling.

I don't blame Parker for anything. I don't expect anything that isn't contractually required.

People voted yes on this.

Don't vote yes unless it has what you want on it, simple as that. I would have much rather had 3 years of an arbitrated contract with an arbitrated implementation schedule. Instead we have 5 years of being behind. It is what it is. Hopefully in 2019 we have a better negotiating team. And flipping the switch to alpa while the same people are running the show (see USAPA) will get nothing accomplished. We need younger blood in the room.

That being said, it isn't as bad as people say :) I was done by the 18th of the month with 87 hours. Im a complete bid sheet rider.

Only thing voting no would have done is caused us to be paid MUCH less than now. You can thank APA the leadership for screwing it all up when they had their back alley meetings with doug. When they signed that "cost neutral arbitration" clause it was pretty much over at that point.

I voted yes because it was either vote no and get the same or vote yes and get the same but with more money.

I've been here 2.5 years and I don't really see what all the fuss is about. I'll take almost $60/hr more in second year pay/ way more job security and a crappy "culture" over no money and happy people. I go to work to make money. My friends are at home. We have a contract we voted on. Deal with it. I don't care if the schedulers are nice or mean, if what they're asking for is legal per FARs and the contract then it's pretty cut and dry. Guess I'm in the minority.

That's your opinion (and 66% of our group). I disagree, but it doesn't matter anymore. Hopefully after SLI we can do better in 2019 with less bickering.

I agree 100%! When I got hired at US Airways, I felt like I was in a dream world. Schedulers were friendly and helpful. Chief Pilots did awesome things to help you out when you needed it. Every time the phone rang on reserve, it wasn't a constant battle. You were treated like a human being. The pay might have sucked, but man, the culture ruled.

The other side of the house won't listen to what we have to say because it wasn't invented in their world and is therefore useless and irrelevant. The AArogance that comes from that side of APA is astounding.

Three years (even less at AA) here and you're giving up? Things suck right now with the transition and the senior AA guys are idiots. You gonna let that define the next however many years you have left? Give it some time and throw your hat back in the union ring. We need to take all that BTL piss and vinegar and turn this joint around brother! If we don't it will be all of us on C&R carrying on the tinfoil hat regime.

SJA deadheaded myself and a few other crews INTO Philly on Friday, just to have crews in place for the start up on Sunday.

I know a few airlines did this. AA had crew flights between PIT/PHL/CLT. I had a buddy at pinnacle that said they did the same between MSP/DTW/JFK.

Smart call for all

On a personal, short-term level, this merger has brought nothing good but a pay increase. There's really nothing L-AA brought to the table that I like or feel is better than what we had a USAir. . On a larger scale, I feel the merger was good for both of our companies long term health and its ability to compete. A lot of what we are experiencing is merger pains and once we get the separate divisions all put in to one, things should be better. I'm not ready to give in yet and start a war. Our small airline feel is gone forever though.

There was no way you could shut down CLT,PHL, DCA, NYC for over a day each, and then bounce back the day after like nothing ever happened.

Agree with you. However, it is a lot of snow in 24 hours period.
I wasn't going against the descision to shut things down. I'm just saying, even with perfect planning, you cant have this snow event and it not look ugly operationally for awhile.

I hear Ornstein is moving over to there, just to complete that feeling of yours. :)

Hey! John Ornstein! The Arizona business news media's "Phoenix's very own airline maverick just like Herb Kelleher"? :)

He rides a harley!

He's daring!

He's dashing!

Texas is taking notice because an Arizona airline is making it's mark!

I've heard so many funny JO stories in the past year.
