AA3023 Incident. DEN - MIA, July 26 2025

It should be a reg and part of the safety briefing. "in the event of an evacuation, any person carrying any form of luggage will be subject to a misdemeanor and minimum fine of $5000."

Locking overhead bins is another solution. Given the size of some of these bags, people were clearly going into the bins.

I am on a weird "airplane anorexia" kick where I am looking for planes and am kind of obsessed with the weight. Like various Waco's, depending on who restored it and how (interior/avionics choices, covering system and finish used, etc) the weight can vary widely even on the same models like a UPF-7. A light UPF with no cowl or wheel pants, no interior, no avionics, not a hand rubbed, 30 coats of dope finish - is a remarkably delightful machine. Key being "light". With that said, a kind of simple lock for the overhead that can be operated remotely from the cockpit or by FA's would be an excellent safety investment for added weight.

Doesn’t surprise me these days
