AA

Received an email on Thanksgiving stating that there was a delay in the process and the decision has not been finalized. The remaining 20 or so final selectees are to hear by December 9. IMO this class will still happen as AA is expecting quite a bit of attrition. I am still interested as to see what happens with me and the other selectees. Any one else want to weigh in?

If yo have a steady job, don't leave it. They are looking for concessions from employees. Do not go in thinking you will renegotiate the contract now, since they are renegotiating in bankruptcy court now. Good luck to all the AMR people, current and retired that have not been paid their retirement in full. I just hope my mom is not in this group...

Does anyone have any insight on how this will affect American Eagle? Is/was Eagle planning on hiring dispatchers in the near future?

Actually a source I have said a TA was reached approx 2 weeks ago and was being put to a vote. Not sure if that will be scrapped with the recent news though...

You are aware of what bankruptcy court is, right? That TA is just a piece of paper at this point.

Haha, I'm well aware of what Chapter 11 is as well as the fragility of a TA. Just adding an unseen variable to the discussion; one that I, as well as most, was surprised to hear.

Considering AA's history with furloughing people (I had a friend who was on furlough there for almost five years before getting recalled) I would be very wary about accepting any job offers from AA at this time. Just my opinion but everyone knows how it goes in this industry....last hired, first fired.

Sorry, I meant to put a smilie on there. It does add just a little more to the puzzle, but my opinion is with the things corporations get away with in BK court with actual contracts, I wouldn't hold out for what was negotiated in a TA right before court...

American still has considerable monies in the bank and according to some analysts statements I read today, it is going to be a different type of bankruptcy than what everyone is used to. They are still continuing on with the aircraft orders that were placed a few months ago, and they are just looking to streamline their overall operations and reduce some of their labor costs. I found this news to be quite surprising, and I will be interested to see how everything turns out. I still am keeping my hat in the ring for the DX'er opportunity, as I have heard that they will possibly be offering early outs for some of the more "senior" people.

Haha, no worries. I've never heard of a TA being reached and put to vote weeks before a bankruptcy announcement, so who knows. They could just as easily throw the thing away as keep it on the table I would think.

This just in, courtesy of the Dallas News aviation blog. Looks like that great starting pay at AA will be continuing on for the forseeable future, assuming they do actually make job offers next month:

American Airlines has told the Transport Workers Union that the two tentative agreements out there between the airline and the union - one for dispatchers, the other for fleet service/ground workers - are kaput.

"In light of the changed circumstances resulting from the Chapter 11 filing, American will not proceed to finalize the tentative agreements with the Fleet Service Clerks and Dispatchers," American senior vice president of human resources Jeff Brundage told the TWU in a letter Tuesday morning. American "must now prepare to seek further changes to its TWU agreements" in bankruptcy court, Brundage said in his letter to TWU international president Jim Little.

And just like that, down the toilet it goes. I heard from a DX buddy from AA that this is indeed true.

Heard that the word is the hirings have been frozen - that the positions aren't going to be filled since there may be layoffs? Can anyone confirm?

They sent out an email to everyone on Saturday night and that the hirings have indeed been cancelled. They apologized for the inconvenience, and said to wait to be "Classified by HR within the next week". No idea what the heck that means...guess we will just wait and see.

That's tough. Hope no one lost their current gig in the process.

Has anyone recieved there classification letter yet?

I thought it sounded too good to be true. You know how the cliche goes. I would stay as far away from companies that are trying to hire while in bankruptcy. That's too risky to take the job, just to get furloughed within months. Just my 0.02 cents.
