AA 550 Diversion/Captain Dies in Flight

I hope that's just some ill advised sarcasm.
I always hated that saying. "died doing what he loved".
Short of a horrific terminal disease where there may be a relief, dying sorta sucks. Dying at the office prolly even more so.

Probably a different thread is needed, but after doing this for more than three decades, I guess I am a bit jaded, it is more a job (sometimes a neat one, sometimes not so much) than something I "love". I love my family and home life, job? Meh, It's OK, but love would be a bit strong as far as I am concerned. And I certainly don't want to die there.

Well he died doing what he loved, I think there's some positive there.
Really? Who in their right mind wants to die at work, wants to die without their loved ones near them, wants to die before they live long enough to see their children grow up, or even before they can enjoy their retirement? Ummmmm.......... that would be NO ONE!

I got really bad food poisoning from a food truck when I was staying in Pateete. I was lying face down on the bathroom floor sweating and my stomach had an intense pain that made me wonder if I should go to the hospital. Since it was 4AM I decided to wait until a better time to try and get to the hospital without a car. I didn't know what to do or where to go.

Really I just wanted my wife to hold my head and tell me everything would be OK. I could only imagine what this guy went through and I'm guessing it was pretty lonely. He was obviously a family guy.

Thanks to the Delta guys and gals for a nice welcome home for Michael in SLC. Classy group @Derg

Never knew you could go through bypass surgery and get a class1. At any rate, I am sure he must have had to jump through many hoops and monitoring to keep it.

Condolences if anyone here knew him.
You would be surprised. Buddy at my airline flew with one eye. He was the FO on a DC-10 when his captain passed away in the lav.

I don't understand debating on what someone else loves to do? What if he did love what he was doing at that moment?

Let the man RIP for his awesome service to the aviation community.
