A nightmare for JetBlue passengers at JFK

What does Andy Rooney say again? :)

(CBS) QUEENS Inside a home in Bayside, Queens on Thursday, two weary, angry you ladies were recovering from what they call their night in hell on Delta Airlines.

On Wednesday night, 17-year-olds Cally Nikolis and Alexandra Moshouris, along with their classmates, were boarding a Delta jet at Kennedy Airport expecting to fly to Greece.
...
Cally's mother, Marie Nikolis, wasn't having any of JetBlue's explanations...

So um, why was she mad at JetBlue if it was a Delta flight? Is it safe to assume it was a code share?

I would really really really love to tell you all my side of the story, (I was the ramp controller on duty and in contact with all of the pilots all day) but in fear of my job I will not, as Dough says "wait for the book"

If you want your $120 transcon, then be prepared to deal with this kind of crap. Don't want that? Then start being willing to pay $600 for a transcon. Otherwise, shut up.

...and then you have my pax who pay a whale of a lot more than $600 just to avoid those (and many other) hassles. Thank the good Lord for 'em, too. :)

You mean they don't buy groceries and gas with their credit card all year, never having flown on the airline, but get access to the frequent flier lounge, fly for free and scream at the crew because there's no meal between LAX and TUS?

Is there such a world?

When low'd, when's goin' be my time? When low'd, when! :)

A spokesperson for Delta tells CBS 2 the plane in question on Wednesday night never left the gate and passengers were free to get on and off the plane as they pleased. :)

The passengers say they were stuck on the plane, Delta is saying that the aircraft never left the gate & the passengers were free to get off, so, let's put the Delta flight in question.

Passengers stuck on American Airline plane for over 8 hours

So, passengers were stuck on a Northwest flight & an American Airlines flight, in addition to the Jetblue flights.

Why would drag the flight crew into this? This had to do with the passengers.....

Was the crew not on the aircraft as well? Do you think they wanted to be stuck in that aircraft 8, 10, 11hrs? And then possibly face continuing their flights if/when they got going?

I was using this to point out how insane the flight/duty rest rules are as an aside to an insane situation.

what i dont understand is the comment the mother made. she said something to the extend that it is inhumane to keep people closed in for that period of time. ive done that flight and it was a good 8 to 9 hours. i dont think anyone had a problem on the plane. some people bother me. :)

Gotta disagree with ya. The customer paid for a flight between A to B & have every right to expect that service, to be trapped on an airplane for 10 hours, no customer deserves that.....

Read the terms of carriage and tell me where it says they can't be trapped on a plane for 10 hours.

Oh, it doesn't?

Don't like it? Drive. Walk. Or take Greyhound, except it would take a passenger ten times longer and cost more.

Exactly. People have to realize you get what you pay for.

Just in time for Valentine's day, a local TV station did something where they went to several jewelry stores and bought engagement rings. Then they had an appraiser grade the rings.

It should come as no surprise they didn't find the top quality rings at Wal-Mart.

It's the same way in air travel, too. Steve-o's customers pay a hell of a lot more than Aunt Bessie and Uncle Bob and they get a hell of a lot better service.

Why people expect different, I'll never know.

Come on Tony! People want to upgrade to first class for free, but are amazed how paltry the service has gotten! ;)

Oh, that depends. Sometimes, you say the right thing and all the FAs want to talk to you.:)

I have to thank someone I met at network JC for that one.:)

I hear you. It's one thing to see all the misinformation and "oh my god it was horrible nightmare!" stuff on the news, but on a forum like this people should know better. It's not a "service" issue. It's a logistical/weather issue where it would take a psychic genius to anticipate (guess right) in a weather situation and something the airlines clearly don't want to have happen. It would take millions if not billions of dollars of airport modifications and investments in equipment to fix this so as to make it a certainty that it can't happen under any circumstances.

This is a rare event that every airline tries to avoid. The easy way to avoid it is to not fly in this weather and then you'd have to listen to all the "I was stuck in an airport for X days, nightmare, never again....." nonsense. We're a soft society now that our ancestors wouldn't recognize.

Or NetworkJC! :)

I usually drop a few 'f bombs' and talk about "stuff" during the event.
