9L, 9E, XJ JCBA executive summary

General Rant:

For those who don't understand the Mesaba FO rates..... They are a blend from the Avro days of RJ85/SF34 rate hence the reason they are higher than the Colgan/New rates. You can NOT compare these rates because of this. The rates are now split per aircraft. The new SF rates are equal or better to Eagle and Skywest. There is no point in complaing about the lack of min day for outstation based flying either because it being phased out and you can bid away from those positions if it bothers you.

The Saab CA rates are better barely at XJ, but with 4 aircraft types that need raises a 60 cent shift from the Saab to make other pay scales more palatable makes it worth while. The NEW Saab scales are still the highest in the industry when compared to Piedmont DH8-100 and Skywest 120 scales.

So in a way those that are whining about these scales are infact whining about being the highest paid at your position NOT factoring in soft pay which puts you even further ahead.

Mesaba Airlines has 0 DH8400 airframes and that is why the scale XJ has is NOT valid. Currently they start off in year 1 a little behind AE, but finish well ahead of AE by year 18. That is NOT factoring in the raise every Dec 1st. So they are as good as anything out there currently. They are brought to the same standard as the Crj200 with in 5 years. At that time they will be the highest q400 rates in the industry bar none. That goes for the FO's as well. So once again you are being brought to industry leading standards not even factoring in work rules.

People need to focus on what they are getting and not what others are getting. I assume the people whining about the rates are the most junior FO's who don't understand all of the benefits of this contract. This contract benefits everyone at all three airlines. No one airline has any leverage against management for a better contract. How long do you plan on being at a regional any way? Are you willing to lose $6-900 per month to battle over $600 per year? This is penny wise pound foolish. You could literally cost yourself 10's of thousands of dollars over the next few years you are at the regional level. If every one looks at what we don't every one could vote no. Some of the people who could complain the most are the XJ saab FO's because most are senior to the 900 FO's who will be making more money. If any one thinks that management will give you a better deal individually out of the goodness of their heart ask a Pinnacle pilot.

Please use common sense and look at what you expected (and are getting)when you got hired at your respective company and what you are being offered.

End......err......pause rant.

Most are not junior. Quite the opposite. We are all in the 3-6 year range and planning, hoping, praying to get out of here before even DOS+1 ever becomes a reality. Most of us have probably paid about 2500 in union dues thus far without a contract and would like to get some great pay for 6 months before we leave.

I know, I know, you can't predict when you will move on but many guys already are and me thinks this spring/summer there will be many more.

At Mesaba 3-6 years is junior. Factor in you have only been paying union dues for only 2 of those years. I guarantee if this is voted down you won't see a dime extra before you have the opportunity to leave.

At PCL you need about 10 years to start claiming "senior". 20+ gets you the "awesome" schedules. It's all relative. Most junior CA system wide will be a September 06 class from my initial class and that's -200 JFK.

not claiming senior either, but not complete newbies to the industry. 1 year at CJC is like 7 anywhere else:insane:

I think of my union dues the same way as I think of my car insurance: it's something I pay for "just in case." It's certainly not something I pay hoping to get an ROI down the road. I know I've tossed in more than $2500 since I'm starting year 5 myself. I'd love to get out of here soon, too.

Walt, if you're in MEM sometime and I'm off, beer's on me. We'll force Joe to come with us, too.

Phht, Sherpa and I would probably end up on the evening news on channel 5.
"Two pilots break out into fist fight over nothing, hear about it at 9, film at 10!"

fist fight? :chair:

now that I have had a chance to calm down. I am going to vote yes and not complain about the pay anymore.

Wow...this thread exploded, didn't it? Last time I looked, it was 3 pages. Good luck to all involved. I hope it works out for everybody as much as possible.

You would lose again, just like you lost in wwII

WWII is not over. All japanese TV's, Cars, Watches and Camera's will will simultaneously detonate when the undisclosed implementation of the final solution occurs. Then we shall have our revenge.:guns:

I think a lot of the shock dismantlement was from people hearing "Its a great contract" and automatically taking that to mean great pay rates. When they came out, people didn't see what they expected, so they got upset. Once they get a good look at the contract, and she how well rounded it is (colgan guys) hopefully they will get over the "my pay rate sucks" and realize how much better their lives will be under this new contract.

Once guys here learn how to work pbs, add/drop etc to get what they want, work the soft pay they will start to understand how valuable this contract is.

I'm not going to say yay or nay, yet. I want to see the final language to make sure I'm getting what im buying, and not something full of holes.

I think that is great advice for everyone. Read the contract and at the end as "is this something that I could work with and something that would improve my quality of life here at this airline, is this something I want?"
