787 to the flight line

...have they fixed that weight issue and are they going to live through on the promises that they made about the plane in terms of range and fuel economy?

benefits= very efficient, long range, improved passenger comfort. Flight tests should be started by the end of 2Q this year. From the looks of it, it's going to happen very soon. First engine start is today i think.

And here I thought the airplane was rolled out last year.

Yeah, but this time it's not held together with bolts from Home Depot and all the oversize holes they drilled to make those fasteners fit have been fixed. :buck:

Still haven't used the 797 number yet. The next aircraft will most likely be the 737 replacement and will be using the new geared turbofan engines. They are at about the 737's design limit with improving efficiency and comfort.

How do they certify pilots (type ratings) on a brand new aircraft design? Does Boeing have factory training for Chief Pilots so they can check type their company's pilots?

Thats how we usually do it at the flight school. When we got the Cessna 400, our boss went to Wichita for factory training so he could teach us to fly it.

I guess what i'm asking is, if no one has flown that type of plane, who is qualified to fly it? Some one with lots of 777 time? Some one with lots of Boeing experience? Some one with lots of wide-body time?

I'm assuming Boeing also makes the 787 sim to type people in as well.

I have no idea how this stuff works, please, some one drop me a line.

Thanks!
