787 Cockpit

Damn cool plane....

But where is the traditional bigger than life Boeing gear handle...I can't believe they went with that little tiny thing.

That's pretty damn cool if so, I wonder what powers all the systems?

From Wiki

The 787 uses turbofan engines that are bleedless, thus eliminating the superheated air conduits normally used for aircraft power, de-icing, and other functions. These systems are to be replaced by all-electrical systems.[4] Another new system is a wing ice protection system that uses electro-thermal heater mats on the wing slats instead of hot bleed air that has been traditionally used.

I wonder how reliable that'll turn out to be. I never had any problems with the boots in the Hondo (I know, totally different deal, but still bleed powered) however, we always had electrical gremlins. In fact, I think every airplane I've ever flown has had some sort of electrical gremlin eventually.

Now just as soon as I find the auxiliary input for some music we'll be all set to pushback. Do you think the passengers would like death metal today, Captain?

The FMC looks like a touch screen? In fact most of those monitors look touch screen. That's gonna get messy. :D

I am pretty sure the FMC is still key operated. I believe the keypad is on the left side of the screen, instead of under the screen like on the rest of the series. I am not expert at the 787, that is just what I am initially guessing about the keypad.

I think all of the new technology is great, and the stuff about it is bleedless is pretty cool, but there is a side of me that sort of thinks that everything being electric could be a bad thing. Just more stuff that goes out when something happens with the electrical system. I know the new technology is great, I really hope it all works as planned. This is surely going to be an awesome airliner.

I know people were talking of carriers of it earlier, the launch carrier is going to be ANA if I am not mistaken.

Most *real* airplanes (I'm poking fun at RJs here) have seats that slide back and then out towards the side wall of the airplane so you can easily get in and out.

including the Bro...a real airplane if I ever flew one!

The P3 doesn't move over, but is so roomy up front, you don't need it to!

hey we have been watching them fly the 78's here at MWH every day....3 of them so far.

I'll feel bad for the poor sap that has to glide that thing in when both of the engines quit, the APU dies and the RAT only powers the backup instruments.

I see they out the cup far away from the instruments. Let's just hope no Coke cans explode on that stuff. You know what that means, Mechanic call!!!:laff:

That the desktop pic on my laptop now. Take that A330 cockpit jumpseat shot!:rawk:

That would be expensive to replace that equipment.

Eh, even in the CRJ the RAT powers the captains PFD. I'm sure they've thought about pretty much everything.

It's a single screen display for both FMS's... I'd think that they'd wanna split those up for redundancy reasons.

Each of the functions (PDF, ND, EICAS, SD, CDU, video, ATC, checklists, etc.) can be configured to display on portions on each of the sides' available, functioning displays.

These are preset configurations that the crew can choose among, or are selected when a display fault is detected. E.g., if the lower display poops-out in a torrent of beverage, the inboard displays can cede a portion of their real estate to assume the functions of the dead display.

I think some international airlines allow their pilots to smoke :cough, cough Aeroflot:

I know of a handful of foreign airline pilots who smoke in flight. Not sure if it is allowed by the airline but they do it.
