767 Training

I'll try! But between now and the end of the systems oral, I'm pretty slammed. I might try to run home for a night on thursday for a quick sanity break, but we'll have to see!

I completely understand. I start sims next week, so my schedule is rapidly getting more hectic.

Probably. I usually walk to class in the morning but I'll take a gander for it tomorrow.

Great blog Doug, thank you for posting it. I was wondering can the 767 fly a non-precison approch? or are you able to load up a specific approach and it can pritty much fly it?

Oh, it is everywhere. Not really sure if it is clay but the ground/dirt is a beautiful red rust color!

Oh, it's clay, all right. And it's EVERYWHERE! If Doug hasn't seen it, apparently he's been studying too late and needs another 2 or 3 cups of coffee before he heads to work!

Oh, I've seen it. I've still got some of that red clay on my running shoes from a year ago in Cincy.

But with about 900 different possible questions and the admonition to pretty much "know everything" about two variants of the 757 and about four variants of the -300/-300ER, I can't say I've exactly been paying attention to dirt! :)

The BBQ kitchen is the bomb. I've heard some good things about Hambones, but never had the opportunity. The only down side to the BBQ kitchen is they are cash only, but the unlimited sides help that.

If you're in the mood for Greek, the Greek place across from Hambone's is pretty darn good. There is also a little sandwhich place, on the street next to Rising Roll across from Hambone's, called "Which Wich". Good stuff, and pretty cheap. Only one in the state of Georgia. Here's the link to their corporate website...http://www.whichwich.com/

The owner, Asia guy, goes absolutley crazy running around during lunch push. He provides both good food and good entertainment.

I would also suggest hitting up Cafe on the Corner in Hapeville if you've never been there. Little pricey but good quality and fresh food.

I've got a couple of other places on my list. If anyone is ever around and wants to grab a bite somewhere, PM and we'll try and grab something.

Which wich is very good, and you are right the owner is entertaining. The prices are reasonable as well. Today we went to Johnny B's for Pizza, NY Style service to go along with the pizza, but the food was pretty good.

Doug, as far as the weather is concerned, I have no idea. Cold, warm, rain sun...repeat..I guess thats the weather pattern for now.

If you haven't tried Winchester Arms yet, it is a great English Style pub about a mile down Virginia Ave west...

Yummy....

I think I walked down there once when I was staying at the Marriott or something like that a few years ago. Looked like a lot of fun!

Man, I had the smoked chicken at BBQ Kitchen a few days ago, Kill ER! :)

I will have to give that place a try next week...

A random question came into my thick noggin tonight after about the 3rd beer....

Are they going to the electronic oral on the 767 yet?

Not yet! It was supposed to start with my class, but when the ground school guys were going to submit it to the feds (exactly off the LOD), the sim guys got involved, added their own angle on it and the feds rejected it.

So I had the regular oral, which was fine. Tough, but fine.

Apparently, by the way the computer test was written and it asked "What is the fuel capacity of the 757?" and you answered 75,000#, it would mark it as an incorrect answer because the actual capacity is a little different.

I don't know, that's just what I was told.

I'm going to forward you everything that helped during the process and leave out the crap that was a waste of time even printing when I'm done with training.

I'll give you the "Doug Taylor Hookup" before you start training. BTW, when do you start?

Ah, but the face-to-face oral is just so much more fun!

I'll never forget the look on my 727 second officer examiner's face when he asked me about the "A/B" switch in the 727.

I drew a total blank, and instead of BS'ing him I said something like, "Sorry, I don't remember that one. Let's move on to the next system."

Everything went dead silent and he kinda gave me a "dog-watching-TV" look with the tilted head and everything for about 30 seconds. Then he says, "but, you're supposed to know this!"

Then I say, "I know I'm supposed to know it, but I'm drawing a blank on this one. Do you want me to try to make something up?"

I got another 30 seconds of blankness, then he moved on. I think he was just shocked I was honest instead of squirming in my seat and trying to weasel my way out of it.

I passed...

Oh man, the 727 initial oral. Better come with a toolkit because you're going to have to build the airplane! Three hours of terror for me.

Here's a question. Since they're so anal about "They're THRUST levers" all throughout training, why in hell do we have autoTHROTTLES? :)

We had a mind numbing lecture about EEC's and then during my oral, he asked, "Well, if you completely lose the EEC on a 757 with Pratt's, why are you having a bad day"? and that was it. I was prepared to dicuss "mode switches", "power switches", "on/off switches" etc.

That and the non-FADEC EEC question on the 767 "small GE".

(must be speaking greek to 99.99% of my users!)

Looking forward from the engine,
GE engines have Throttle Resolvers
PW engines have Thrust Levers
RR engines have Power Levers

Looking back from the aircraft,
Boeing planes have throttles and an autothrottle
Airbus planes have thrust levers and autothrust

(more or less...)

Its the same reason some engine manufacturers call it a "burner", while others, depending on which side of the Atlantic the engineering and patent filing was done call it a "combustor" or "combustour."

Just call it "TLA" ;)
