757's

It's not the range that is the problem. The performace is crap. I don't know if we have any airbus drivers on here but the ones I have talked to that fly the big-little bus (321, as compared to the little big bus 330) have said the thing won't climb at all. If they get 400fpm above F250 they are having a good day.

A300Capt - but he hasn't posted in a while:

If you want to talk about airframe flex the 757-300 is the way to go. It is extremly noticeable when you are in the jumpseat looking back to an empty airplane climbing out of PBI sorounded by your typical FL Tstorms. Great story behind that experience. The -200 is not nearly as bad as the -300. That extra airplane they stuck on the back really makes a big difference.

As far as a "pilots airplane" my dad is partial to the 767-200. He says it flies like a big 172 in the pattern. I guess I'll have to take his word for it ... for now.

It does appear to look like a phallis ,yes. But the allure the 75 has on me is it's ultra sexy look and it's strong performance abilty!

Vroom!
Actually I always thought it was freakin awesome to see one of them taking off after I just worked my butt of trying to load 500,000 lbs of tropical fish in the back bin.

Unless, of course, it's the new Delta transcon configuration with the live satellite television. That's pretty freeking cool.

Just spent 5.5 hrs in the back of one of those from ATL-SEA. That system is pretty flippin sweet! Fastest 5.5 hour flight I've ever had . . .

Like others have said, the 75' ain't going nowhere. You have to realize that the airlines have discovered something new about these birds...they can fly...over an ocean...

As already evident, you are going to see many many 757's crossing the Atlantic. It seems the 757 has found yet another mission.

Yea...the 757 is experiencing some rejuvenation with the new winglets and it's expansion overseas.

I love that plane. Beside the things that I mentioned prior about what attracts me to the 757 I also here is a dream to fly. A "real pilots" plane and very easy to handfly. Like Oldtownpilot said about the 767 I hear it flies like a 172 in the pattern from pilots who fly it.

Yea...now that is another plane that I hear is quickly on it's way to the desert or cargo or third world countries.

I'm speaking about the 767 as a whole not just the 200 series. From talking to other pilots to reading stuff on other boards the I hear that 787 is making serious inroads and very soon will replace the 767. Not exactly sure that all that I hear is exactly rumot or truth. But the fact is that the 787 performs the task of the 767 cheaper and more fuel efficient.

I also got real mad love for the 76. It will truly be a sad day to see them go. Their lines are still in production but not sure any airlines have any remaining orders on file. Not being an airline pilot but I hear it's days are somewhat numbered in airlines fleets due in large part to the 787. But I trully doubt they'll disapear overnight though

Truth or rumot,it's just what I hear!

I prefer the rolls royce equipped a/c. When I was at DCA, Transmeridian was flyin them out of Sanford. Oh man the roar on those RR engines when they spool up is awesome!:rawk:

He flies the A300-600. But I'm sure he has some inside scoop on both the 757/767 as he was capt on both those airframes. Not sure what he would know about the 321!

I'm here...mostly lurking nowadays though.:bandit:

B757-Undeniably the best aircraft I've ever flown! Boeing took all the good traits of past aircraft and none of the bad and made the B757. Performance out the wazoo (nothing like a max thrust t/o with an empty airplane), reliable to a fault, nice mix of old (analog) and new(glass) technology and easy to hand fly around the pattern. Climb to altitude was a sprint, especially the ones with the RR engines. Cruising at FL410 back "in the day" when everyone else, except for some corporate guys, was in the low to mid 30's was nice.

B767-300: All the performance of the B757 with the ride of a Cadillac. The B757 was like a Porsche 911 and the B767 was a 5 or 7 series BMW. B767 was a little harder to "grease" on the landing than the B75 but it truly was a sweet ride by anyone's standards.

A300-600: Well, like my mother always said, "If you can't say anything nice.."

Seriously, it is what it is. It's a capable aircraft that does what it was designed to do without all the flare and pizazz of the Boeings. It's older technology that needs to be monitored a little closer, prodded a little more often and treated a little more gently. It's slower, flies lower and tends to be a little less tolerant of mis-management while hand flying or using the automation. It can be a handful in gusty x-winds as it's fat, er..I mean robust wing, tends to ride turbulence like that of a twin otter or single engine Cessna than of a swept wing heavy jet. Not always fun when trying to set 300,000+ lbs down gently between the lines on a dark stormy night.

I was looking forward to bidding the 744 and getting back to the Boeings but decided against moving to PANC to fly it.

The B757's aren't going anywhere soon. The freight companies love'em and one of the few airplanes where you'd be hard pressed to find any pilot who's flown it who doesn't like it!!!!

Back to the lurk mode.:)
