757's

When production of the 757 model ended in late 2003. People on this board and a few other pilots that I know told me not to worry that the plane will still be around for years to come.

Well,boy were they wrong. The 757 seems to be on the fast track out of the airlines. Even before FDX announced they wanted 757 in their fleet on this and many other aviation boards indivduals were calling for the 757's head.

Saying it was old and not fuel effiecent,blah,blah,blah. And that airlines with them needed to get rid of them and purchase newer 787's,A350's or NG737's. British Airways got rid of all their 757's years ago giving them to DHL to be converted into freighters. That seems almost to signal the end of the beginning of the end as far airline service.

So what gives why is everyone hating on my fav the 757?

Rumot: I hear that DAL is going to be giving up most of their older 75's to FDX while still retaining their newer models. You know striking while the market is rich for that type. Also further speculation that AA is going to get rid of all 150 of their 757 (to FDX again) and replace it with the A320!

Unsubstantiated internet rumor. I've already checked it!

75's, as a pilot, completely rock. But they can get a little "interesting" as a passenger in coach depending on the configuration.

Unless, of course, it's the new Delta transcon configuration with the live satellite television. That's pretty freeking cool.

I love the 757. It's the last of the real "pilot" planes save that of AA's what 200 strong MD-80's. When I get to a major in 2099 I'd love to fly that plane.

Ahh, it's not going anywhere. It's just not being produced any more.

As cool as the 757s are (and I do like them more then the big-little airbus) I think the reason they are in such demand is that there isn't a replacement out there for them. The large RJ market has boomed and there is a bunch going on in the widebody market (777ER, 787, 380 etc) but there is nothing in the narrowbody big plane market. Hence the 757 is the newest/best option floating around.

Name another 170-200 passenger American-made jet in production...quick! quick! :)

Last time Boeing got out of the market thinking "Aww, no one wants to buy a X-seat jet!" What's happened?

X = 150 (727) -- Hello Airbus 320!
X = 100 (737-200) -- Hello Embraer!
X = 50-75 (DC-9) -- Hello godless Canadair!

So if Boeing is actually planning on leaving the market in the sub-200 seat market, all they'll do is create a Bonanza for another company.

:yeahthat:
Gotta love Dish Network! Oh and the Cartoon Network is a parents godsend for transcon flights!:)

It's pretty cool looking at "The Weather Channel" weather radar and quickly flipping to the moving map display to watch the pilots deviate around it. Or watching a little late night "Aqua Teen Hunger Fest" live flying back to PHX.

Nah, the 75's. not all of them though.

The new biz elite has a DVR-type setup with pre-recorded movies, MP3's and television shows when you're over the ocean.

Well Boeing needs to get back in the 170-200 market. Maybe they will with the 797. The 737 replacement,not the supposed 1000 seater.

I know its foreign, but the A321 looks to be a replacement option. It looks nearly as big but im not sure on the acutal numbers.

Range is a serious issue with the 321. It's just really a "fly more people" plane that comes at the expense of range. Probably why the 321 was never a success that it's other siblings are!

I too love those things to death. Watching them takeoff after everything else always makes me laugh. They just climb like a rocket. That and they just look badass from any angle in any configuration.

What's interesting about them as a passenger Doug? Is it the noticable flex in the fuesalage going through turbulance on an approach? lol I could be imagining it all because its pretty narrow for it's length. But that thing is such a limp noodle when it comes to rigidity, but I like it. Or maybe I need to quit being such a dork. :D

It's not the range that is the problem. The performace is crap. I don't know if we have any airbus drivers on here but the ones I have talked to that fly the big-little bus (321, as compared to the little big bus 330) have said the thing won't climb at all. If they get 400fpm above F250 they are having a good day.

I woke up in a bunk on the
<-----Tanker
one time, enroute to somewheres and noticed the airframe twisting and flexing in turbulence, as I had my hand on a rib. Quite the thing to wake up to when you're enroute of the water in a 45+ year-old airplane!

Wow...well they suck!!! Lol!!!
