747F slides off runway in YHZ

MEL NO MUFFS
Id say, shes a write off! I dont think those lobsters will be making it to GYYYYYYNAAAA. There has been a fair amount of construction at YHZ lately for 05/23. This plane took out the ILS for 14/32 so... Hand fly it in for the next few weeks I guess.

The lobsters were reaccomodated on a partner carrier and their travel plans uninterrupted. They were given frequent flyer miles for the inconvenience.

That metar is a beautiful day in halifax. Wonder what happened

As ACMI starts to suck the bottom of the bottom, this is becoming more common.
Inside joke I guess...

The AC crash a few years ago at YHZ wherein the plane was destroyed and the engine was ripped from the airframe, Air Canada called it a “Hard Landing.”
They have called the landing in Montego Bay a “hard landing,” when they stalled the A319 during the landing and broke the airplane. Like real good, kind of broke.

Or the near miss at SFO that nearly killed five aircraft worth's of people.

I ran into a Rouge crew staying at the same hotel in Dublin not too long ago. The FO looked like he was 12.

Wet, shortish(for a 747 me thinks) runway, with a bit of a tailwind didn’t help I’m sure

One of the resident 747 drivers will probably comment on the length, but 23011G18 on 14/32 is not a bad crosswind. Plus, they ran straight off the runway on center line so at least they have that going for them.

That PlaneTags company will soon have some 747F trinkets for sale.

It is short for the 747, but should be doable at all but the heaviest weights. I've landed on shorter in that type. We discussed the accident a bit before my sim in same type today. We don't know if they were carrying any performance limiting MEL's, had any other sort of non-normal system states, or if the wind shifted to a tailwind during the approach (or they simply floated too far). The landing could quickly degrade into a situation where stopping distance is insufficient if any of those applied.

I wonder if 23 was closed/ILS out. The wind was from 230, and it's 10500ft instead of 7700ft. 7700 is getting short, but for an empty airplane is more than adequate. 23 also has the better of the instrument approaches.

Or you get the guy who tries to grease it on a contaminated runway only to exacerbate the hydroplaning problem. Glancing at the airport info that runway is not grooved.
