You are right! Demeaning a member who stands for a high standard of safety takes away from this site.

Didn't you and the rest of the Alaskans bitch and moan at me after I had concerns with a video of some guy hot dogging?
Bejebus! Just stop. If you give a crap about anything other than yourself, just stop. You sound ridiculous and no one wants another ten pages of your childish tantrums. If you have any self control whatsoever, then do everyone a favor and stop. Find something, anything more productive to do.

I care for a lot more than myself. Do you?

He doesn't have control of anything other than a vacuum cleaner/other household chores...his wife has his self control, it's in a jar...on the mantel, unless she leaves the house, then it goes in her purse (which, I'm sure he holds)

Who cares??!! Why can't we just enjoy the video and anniversary of a beautiful maneuver, in a test aircraft, by a great pilot, in a time when pilots actually had to rely on "pilot stuff", the rules were lax (comparatively), and the internet wasn't around for people to continuously debate the painful minutia of Every Single Thing Ever. Sweet Jebus people, it's Saturday night.

I rest my case.

It was a lighthearted joke.

Yup, notice the high timers don't come around much anymore?

That's the thing, every thread affected by this nonsense isn't actually a discussion about safety or anything else and is typically only tangentially related to safety. It's an ego-filled rant by a couple members that usually devolves into a discussion of who is actually qualified to comment on something. It's not about aviation anymore, it's about ego, politics, and personal issues, and frankly it sucks. I want to talk about issues in aviation without every conversation devolving into a "wang-off," there's no mentoring here any more, there's not much intelligent discussion among people who treat one another with respect.

I remember when "technical topics" was filled with new topics about aerodynamics and instrument procedures and regulations and technique frequently. Not any more. I remember when controversial topics in all the threads were by and large respectful, and those that weren't got flushed pretty quick when people stopped being civil. It's a bummer to see this happen to a community I love. There's no more mentoring here and most topics are divisive for no reason. It's gotta stop. Treat eachother with respect! If you don't agree with someone you can say as much without calling someone an idiot. We're all adults here, we need to start acting like it.

I mean, please tell me an example of this double standard you're speaking of. I'm curious to understand your side of this.

The guy who was hot dogging in a small airplane, I made a few comments about the safety about what this guy is doing. You and others were ALL over it like I was kicking this guy's puppy showing little respect towards my view point.

The 3rd class medical thread. There was wrong information being passed around, I was trying to correct it, folks weren't listening, going off on tangents, and bad information was being put out there to the community. Bad information that can really hurt someone and their careers as a matter of fact.

Generally speaking, coming off as a self-righteous know-it-all tends to dull the message, if not obscure it completely. You might want to work on your delivery if you expect more people to listen, much less give any weight, to your comments. Also, the ability to admit you're wrong on occasion is a sign of good character, which tends to lend credibility to your comments as well. Christ, I can't believe I took you off ignore to say that, it should just be common sense.

Why not use the Ignore setting? It conceals the posts of the folks you find annoying, and definitely enhances the browsing experience!
