47 trapped on 'nightmare' flight to the Twin Cities

Ok...so if this was the situation at RST, why not divert somewhere else? There are a ton of commercial airports within the same radius of MSP as RST. God forbid the passangers steped on the ramp without SIDA badges, the earth would crumble.

Me thinks this is more of a crew wanting to keep the engines running so they get paid more than anything else.

The crew was timed out. How would they be making money?

I think the reality is none of us have ANY idea as to what actually happened and are all having a jolly old time playing monday morning quarterback.

Creativity - thinking outside of the box

Empowerment - faith that if you use your creativity to create an agreeable resolution, that you won't end up in the chief pilot's office with an HR rep and security.

Resignation - doing nothing until morning....

Regional Airline - A place where both of the above are frowned upon.

If you don't open the doors the clock keeps ticking. "Unforeseen delays" don't mean squat, you don't just stop getting paid...

They just couldn't depart legally again.

As light began to fill the cabin around 6 a.m., the plane doors opened and passengers were allowed into the airport terminal, Christin said.
Probably a record block time for those city pairs!

But hey, if you can't let the people off might as well keep the clock going. What a crappy situation.

Do other countries have this same problem?

And by this do you mean a system clogged (Ga's fault no less) by regional airlines that do more and more main line flying, offer crap customer service, hemorrhage money, can't keep up with baggage and are consistently late and pull stunts like tihs?
Eh, not so much.

Saying the regionals clog the ATC system is a bit disingenuous, doncha' think?

You wanna see clogging up the system? Listen to a fellow in his 172 or A36 try and eek out a flight following request!

Plus, most other countries don't really have GA anyway.

True story to the most detail I can remember.

I can be fairly abrasive and type A and there is no doubt in my mind those people would have been off that plane. Now my question is why not turn around and divert to an airport that has ops set up for you(ie ALO or DSM both served by XE) and those two are only a 15-20 minute flight from RST. Hell ALO is on the KASPR3 arrival. Just my $.02

That had to be a dreadful situation (and shameful as well). I find it incredulous that no pax called 911 (or a media outlet) to get help. Crap--if that had been EWR, the newsvans and PA police would have been at the plane within an hour!

RST is one messed up airport. The FBO is not 24 hours. We were delayed (ground stop 2+ hours) one night and TSA went home. Nothing to eat in the airport so CA CX the flight because station manager would not let us get food deliverd. I also have had to sleep in a plane in RST. IT will be story time at NJC. This is the same airport that can't defuel a plane after they over fulled us. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/EGF3986/history/20090514/1220Z/KRST/KORD

I'm surprised RST doesn't have good service. I'd think that with all the Sheiks and world leaders and such being treated at the Mayo, the airport would have a pretty classy FBO with at least 24 hour callout capability.
