Nah, he had it right the first time.

The three week wonder soloed this morning at 10.2 hours. He is consistantly scoring about 69 on the practice tests with just 2 of the Sportys Dvds watched and reviewed. Once he gets through the Cross Country Dvd he should be well over 80 on the practice tests.

With the hurricane heading up this way on Tuesday I think I'll schedule him to take his written exam then. Meanwhile back to soft and short field landings and ground reference maneuvers until Tuesday and night and cross country later in the week.

Well he finished up the dual cross country Dvd last night and scored an 85 on his practice test today. He will be back seating with another student on a dual cross country today. It should make life easier later in the week when he starts doing his cross countries.

He got a 90 on his written test today. Weather forcast is good for the rest of the week and the weekend. Time to plant his butt in the plane and keep him flying. Cross countries and night flying coming up next.

It was going great until today. He disappeared for 2 days to go fishing. He will be back on Sunday to start his cross countries. He said just add 2 days on the end of it, he can get the time off. I guess it is just long weekend syndrome.

He has been a little hard to push out of the nest solo. He likes to stay in the pattern and it is hard to get him out to the practice area. I guess a couple more hours of dual will make him more confident.

So did he show back up to fly like he said?

Yes, he showed back up and was more ready to fly. He did his dual cross country and his night flying. I hope we can get him out for his short solo cross country today and his long cross country tomorrow. After that it's just prep for the checkride.

Got both his cross countries done but he has mysteriously forgotten how to do slow flight and S turns. I guess he was just sight seeing during his local solo flights. Back to the basics.

Just reading this for the first time, and wanted to say that YES it is possible to be a successful compressed-time student.

I did my PPL in 4 weeks, start to finish. I flew twice a day, 4 days a weeks for the 4 weeks. Soloed somewhere late in the 2nd week, and did the written the beginning of the 2nd week (I think...). I studying my @SS off every night, constantly reviewing the days material, pre-reading for the next day. It was right after 9/11, so business was very slow. I was my instructor's only student. I was happy to have him full-time, he was happy to have someone to pay his rent and put food on his table.

The wx on checkride day was VERY heavy fog, and my heart sank when I looked out the window that morning. But by 11am it had lifted enough to make it a go, so I got the plane out and went on my way. I came back to my home airport with a temp certificate in hand!

So it can be done. The instructor and student need to be able to spend lots of time together without getting on each other's nerves. The student must be willing to study and be very pro-active in doing/studying what they are told to.

I just had to send him home until Saturaday, Rocketman. We have had nothing but sunny weather for the last 2 weeks. Now the hurricane is just sitting off the coast. Winds 15-20 gusting 25+. Not fun flying and no change forcast until later in the week. He lives about 5 hours away and agreed to come back next weekend. Just like you weather problems.

Must be something about accelerated programs and weather this year. I can't believe your guy just got shafted for the same thing my guy did. Geez. Somethere's there's just no justice in this world...

Ok, the wonder is heading back here tomorrow. Need to get him back up to speed and ready for a check ride. Maybe Tuesday for the check ride.

That was the slowest moving hurricane I ever saw. We only got about 4" of rain and the wind never went above 30 mph but it really hurt the flying.

So he's shortly headed down the home stretch. You'll have to tell me how it feels when the short timer passes his checkride since I missed out...

Today is the day. We finally got the 3 week wonder over 40 hours and he goes for his checkride today. We had a few problems getting him moving over the last week. Very hazy around here and he got to witness a taildragger go into the ditch last weekend (low time pilot, new taildragger endorsement) which spooked him for a day or two. He'll be going into his checkride with about 42 hours. I expect he will do ok.

We have a new pilot. The wonder passed his checkride with 42 hours under his belt. He flew about 25 days to get those hours. If he was a little more agressive about gettting up in the air he could have done it in 21 days easily.

Thanks for all the support!
