3 week wonder?

It's pretty much all down hill from here. Is he studying for his written yet? Thats can really hold up the process.

And so the 3 week wonder comes to conclusion. He leaves tonight and unfortunately without his private ticket, but he DID get the 41 hours for his commissioning package to go to pilot training so it wasn't completely fruitless.

Everything was going great and he should have been done yesterday morning until - you guessed it - typhoon number two made it's way over. What sucks is, the typhoon never actually hit us, but it passed close enough that for the past 5 days we've had direct 20-25 kt XWinds and low ceilings. He's missing solo XC #2 the Stage 3 check and the checkride and he is finished. I'm kinda bummed, I really hoped we could get it done. Damn the weather gods!!

Sorry to hear the three week wonder wasn't able to get his private, but got as much as he could have done within the time constraints.

I flew out of Kadena in 97-98 and it was fun sharing the pattern with F-15's and E-3's.

Talking about typhoons, we'd have our contingency plan for typhoons, as soon as they set TCCOR 4, a few of us would go out for kegs, a few more of us would go out for food, batteries, water and candles, and we'd throw our typhoon party in the quad on Camp Foster.

Those were the days - we got to hold 4 of those typhoon parties before the season was over.

You would have loved last season here then. We had a total of 15 typhoons in the area and two passed directly over Kadena.

Out typhoon prep was a little different. We ordered the keg in TC-3, launch all the tankers to Guam in TC-2 and bring the keg with us as "mission essential cargo." Ground support in Guam was slow and awful, so by the time we got to base ops after landing we already had a couple down. Then the keg went to the beach downtown in Tumon Bay wherever we were staying and we'd take good care of it before we flew back.

Ahh the memories! Another of the things I will miss when I leave here for good next week. 8 more days!!!!

Subject change......

Rocketman,

When are you guys going to come over and tank us? Were supposed to have you in Mallipo track this morning, and you guys cancelled for the 4th time. What's up at the 909th?
grin.gif

It's always you guys that cancel on us anyway! I guess the foot's on the other hand now...
grin.gif

Not really sure what happened. We've had our heads up our arses of late (read: the past year). Also trying to cut back hours to bare mins cause we gots no $$$

BTW, how long have you been up there? I wonder if I've refueled you before.

LOL......heads up asses goes both ways, I could tell you clown act stories of this place and the resident wing too.

Am TDY with the 117s here. One of your guys dragged my flight over along with a Travis gucci bird from Hawaii a couple months back.

Nice, those sorties always stick out in memory since they don't happen very often. I didn't have any part in that one though.

I think clown acts are the general rule throughout the air force. We have our Krusty the Tanker Clown Friday patches for good reason. I am often astounded the mission ever gets done with all the hands stirring the kool aid sometimes. Leave it to us real thinking aircrew to save the day though

Sorry to hear that the weather did you in, Rocketman99. Good job getting to where you did.

We had three F15-E WSOs that became private pilots this week. One was IFT and the other two were getting their package ready. We have a 21 day wonder starting Sunday (non-military guy). I'll be praying to the weather gods although the weather is usually good in NC this time of year.

Thanks a bunch.

Best of luck with your wonder NE. Hopefully no hurricanes come a callin' to ruin your fun - or do they even make it up to NC?

Hurricanes hit NC every once in a while. We are in Eastern NC where the hurricanes tend to land. So far so good this year.

Well, it was an adventure at the least, right? Yeah, Japan is one of the hardest places to train pilots. Especially during the Typhoon season. I think that is why most of the Japanese pilots come here to the states to train, due to the ever changing wx. Do you think you might try that again?

Well, I would be more than willing to try it again but I'm not in Japan anymore. I'm back home in the land of round eyes and (relatively) proper English and in the greatest city in the world.
