3-5 day Multi School

I did a couple of searches, but didnt really uncover anything.....so Im going to have to start a new thread to find out (hopefully someone has information). Im looking for a 3 to 5 day Multi school for around $2000. I would like them to be somewhere down south (planning on a December date). Ive searched using Google, checked the classifieds at the back of the latest AOPA mag, but no joy. Anyone have any information or experiences with schools that fit into what Im looking for? Thanks for your help......

Just pick a city you want to do it in and start calling FBO's to see which one does multi training - it doesn't have to be a 'program' - 3 to 5 days is PLENTY of time to get a multi as long as you have half a brain and enough notice to call them ahead of time and schedule the airplane for several days in a row.

I got my initial CMEL at Walkwitz Aviation in Titusville FL. Upon searching for contact information, I found that the family sold the business after Ray Walkwitz died. I don't know if the new owner still operate the flight school, but the deal used to be a multi-rating for $995.

I've also been to ATP for their 2 day multi-ATP course. Their operation is good, but in two days, the amount of learning that you can do is limited. I'd recommend at least a 4-5 day course with a minimum of 10 hours.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I was advised to stay clear of AllATPs or whatever the name of that place happens to be. I was referred to a place in Dallas that gives a deal to each student if you come in pairs, but you do all of your "simulator" training in a old junked out twin on the field.

I will research the suggestions here and keep looking/calling myself and let everyone know. Thanks a lot.

so, your staying clear of a place where your not even sure the name of????

I am not a big fan of the accelerated training route, but ATP's multi is pretty tight and to the point and you can get it done. I was comlpetely happy with my Comm Multi Instrument addon I did in Sac 2 months ago.

I did my CFI at Shebles and it appeared that theyre Multi program was also pretty efficient, if a bit disorganized.

I'll vouch for shebleaviation. Very honest and well priced program, so far the best school I've found for accelerated programs. Some day when I get enough money, I'm going to do a sea plane rating with them!

I have a good friend who did his CFI at Sheble's and did quite well. He's planning on going back for his Commercial Multi and seaplane.

You like playing twister with words? I said I was advised to stay clear of them, and I would research all suggestions mentioned. I really dont have any place specific in mind, I just want the best training for my dollar (and someplace warm if possible, since it will happen sometime in December).

Hey mav,
If you decide to do sea plane with sheble, let me know and i'll buy you (or make you) a drink after your done flying. I work at the casino and see that plane a couple times a week on my way to work.

I saw Action's ad in AOPA. They are definitely in the right price range. I also trust their ad more (and the few other multi ads in AOPA) than ones I might see in Flying or some other major mag.

I know some folks who have been out there. They teach you to fly the plane to pass the ride. be sure you are inst current. and I do mean CURRENT... as well as proficient in comlex acft.

[/ QUOTE ]That's just silly. Ya know how AOPA Pilot and FLYING screen advertisers? They accept only the ones who promise to pay for ad space.

Hey Iowapilot,
I am curious to know what you heard bad about ATP. I went to ATP, so i am kinda biased towards them, but i truly think the short programs are a good deal. good luck with whoever you choose. There are plenty of great schools outside of ATP.

Basically I just heard the typical big school story, where they care more about your money than your training. Like I said above, Im going to try and research every angle that time allows me to, I just dont want to regret a hasty decision later.

EDIT: BTW Blee, feel free to give me your opinion based on experiences. Its not just me going, I have another buddy of mine that is going with me (we are going together is a better way of saying it), so I was also checking out the schools that offered a two student discount. I dont know how much better or worse these schools are than others, but every penny counts in these rough times.

I did my CFII and MEI at ALLATPs, and I am going back for my ATP. They did exactly what they promised, and laid out what would happen if I wasn't ready. I would highly recommend them to anyone. As long as you go prepared with what they tell you to know, you will get done.

Well, I am definitely going to give AllATPs a call and see what they have to say. They are definitely in my price range and in an area I would like to train at. I have to admit that when I heard the bad gouge on AllATPs, I wondered how much weight it held. In any learning situation the burden is ultimately placed on the student's willingness and readiness to learn.
I dont know what the circumstances were from my sources, but I know what my abilities are as a student/pilot and maybe a couple of chats (when making any probing phone call to a place I plan to do business with, I make multiple calls to ensure correct information) will be all the information I need to make my decision.
