23% That sucks

Delta doesn't own any LCC's but this doesn't fall under the railway labor act's definition of 'self help' so there really can't be a strike.

If Delta does not own them, then who does own

Song Airlines and Delta Connection.

Those are the ones I was refering to in my original post as I thought Delta owned them but, the pilots were not part of the Delta pilots union.

Song is a part of Delta, more of a 'low PRICE carrier' rather than a 'low COST carrier'. DCI is a subsidiary of Delta, ASA and Comair are two owned carriers by DCI but are not by any means LCC's or LPC's.

I don't follow the airline stuff very closely, but I believe that the Song flights are covered by mainline Delta pilots. There are no pilots specifically assigned to, or working solely for, Song. Therefore the Song pilot/ Delta union question is a non-issue. I think. Been wrong before, though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The other part of what I interpreted Doug to say (again, just an uneducated guess) is that the current talks between management and union are not actual contract talks, just an attempt by both sides to come to some agreements to avoid bankruptcy. Since it is not contract talks in the pure sense of the term (current contract is not expiring), the union has no reason (or legal standing) to go out on strike. The Railway Labor Act of 1926 is the regulation that governs labor relations in the airline industry. Again, could be all wet on this one....
 
Out of my hole for one last statement.

I have no idea what is or is not [leagaly or otherwise] a contract talk. I do know, that when someone is trying to take away over 23% of a persons pay it damn sure sounds like a "contract" talk.

Delta joined into a contract that stated the pilots would receive X amount of $ for work. Now they wish to tear up that contract. What else can it be called? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Well, I think that the point is that Delta cannot just "tear up" the contract at this point in time. Since management can't void the contract, union has no cause to strike.

At this point it's just "voluntary" discussions to try to keep the boat afloat(?).

Kind of interesting to look back to last year when management was asking for 22% and the union was offering single digit concessions, compared to this year when the union has floated a 23% offer on the table (with a few caveats), and the management says it isn't enough....

The game continues.

I agree with you about Song. If it wasnt for them using all of Delta's resources there is no way they could survive. Heck we gave them the 757's they have.

Delta mainline is a little over $.10, the company won't say what ASA/CMR is, but Skywest is about $.19.
 
I hope Delta and the pilots come to terms or things get better soon. Salt Lake City depends on Delta/Skywest quite a bit.. I was looking at Yahoo looking at the 5yr chart for Delta.. WOW near $60 to $4 a share in 4 years.. ugg.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I really don't comment on this stuff on a public website because I really don't want to be made an 'example' of by a bored chief pilot thumping the FOM referencing the paragraph about speaking to the media (define media?) about company affairs.

I've got some definite strong opinions, but if I let loose, believe me, there'd be some upset people at world headquarters!
