23% That sucks

Funny, I thought the CEO said they wouldn't be discussing (or leaking any more memos) pilot negotiations in the press after that last memo.

How soon they forget ...

I don't know where you heard that. There is no question this will be a very public negotiation. Every concession that Delta gets from any one will be in the news, just as every failure. Once you approach BK as a public company there really isn't any privacy anymore.

Remember that a lot of what is called public announcements are internal memos to employees. These will always be leaked by someone, no way for them not to be.

that doesn't mean the deal is done... if you read thru, you'll see this "However, we are once again taking a leadership role in attempting to re-start the talks . It is my sincere hope that given the magnitude and scope of our proposal, management will seriously engage in meaningful negotiations."

Most likely, it won't go thru because of this "The proposed concessions are contingent upon a comprehensive restructuring of all of the Atlanta-based airline's costs. And in exchange for the concessions in the relief package, the Air Line Pilots Association wants financial returns and corporate governance . "

I woudln't believe every newspaper you read....

Quoted from the AJC article about the "possible $1billion in concessions":
"A separate memo from a flight operations executive sought to squelch any idea that management planted the USA Today report. "[Grinstein] has been steadfast in his efforts to keep all negotiations where they belong — at the negotiating table; thus, we will not introduce any new proposals through the media," Dean Bloom, director of flight operations, said in a message to pilot managers.

I don't think they could do that without taking a vote and I don't recall a vote being sent to our house....I dunno, I'll ask the man when I see him.. but he won't want to talk about it in public whether or not it's happening.

I would think if he knew what was good for him, he would have told me ahead of time... so I doubt they've agreed to such a high concession. it just might be another ploy....

I saw on the news that if the pilots don't take the deal then Delta may have to declare bankruptcy. Is this true?

Yes, and also if the pilots don't take the cuts many, many babiy kittens will die, the polar ice caps will melt and the entire midwest will be afflicted with locust swarms.

Nope.

Nothing has gone thru cuz I haven't seen a ballot yet.

(reserving a bunch of expletives that will probably be available for review once the book comes out)

[/ QUOTE ]Brian, management uses the media as a "scare tactic" and see - it worked with you didn't it? no worries though... their just trying to get their concessions and not quite playing by the rules!

Lots of 'special charges' and 'et cetera'.

Ahh, just wait for the book!

the way that article mentions that Delta Pilots are paid 2 billion and then continues on to mention the 2 billion loss seems to me like the media is trying to blame the pilots for Delta's troubles kinda subliminally.. did anyone else get that feeling?

on a side note I think a couple of the majors should ask for a loan to buy a small middle eastern country with lots of oil... eliminate fuel costs altogether...kinda like bush did with Iraq... wait that didn't work..

We're the only major unionized group at a very anti-union airline.

If there are thunderstorms, it usually comes out on the employee forum that in some way, those evil 'contract employees' conspired with the lord of weather and created the thunderstorm.

"Still, I believe this latest offer provides a foundation for meaningful negotiations and a platform from which we can continue to work together to chart a secure - although forever altered - future for our airline and its employees." -- DL CEO Grinstein

Translation: "23% is a nice starting point boys, but nowhere near what we can get outta you by filing for bankruptcy. Have a nice day."

I'm telling ya, it's inevitable.

I've got a dumb question but, since I don't have a clue I've got to ask it. [ never worked in a union position]

If a contract is not acceptable to the pilots and a work stopage is initiated, do the other pilots, those working at LCCs owned by Delta initiate a work stopage as a sign of support?

Or do they just go on with their lives as if nothing was happening?
