73 was headed there and the winds were awful. Then I hear the winds are out of limits. They divert to FAI but there are no parking spots.

Super bad times.

Kind of an interesting cross post but definitely did the gnarliest xwind take off ever at ANC today.

I’m amazed you all were flying. The anchorage bowl gives out a pasting in a lot less wind than that, never mind the crosswind, the ride below like 10 musta been wiiiild

guess you could sub in “Alaska” for “the Midwest”
 
What were the actual winds? I checked ATIS when I saw ANC closed and it was 010/25G35'ish which didn't seem that insane, other than it would be a bumpy crosswind on 7L? Contaminated runway/degraded RWYCC or something?
 
Winner winner chicken dinner! EWR tower fire sprinkler burst in the tower cab. Tower cab had to evacuate to the old United tower. Radios have about 4 mile range and no radar. 1 in 1 out, 10 mile spacing on final. They can’t use the normal tower until the fire suppression system is fixed so this might be a several day long issue.
