Winner winner chicken dinner! EWR tower fire sprinkler burst in the tower cab. Tower cab had to evacuate to the old United tower. Radios have about 4 mile range and no radar. 1 in 1 out, 10 mile spacing on final. They can’t use the normal tower until the fire suppression system is fixed so this might be a several day long issue.
At least they put it’ll be a Charlie Foxtrot on arrival. So there’s that…View attachment 68668
just got this on my flight plan for today. What the hell are you controllers doing up there

Notice to Air MissionThis is the result of years of FAA squandering funding on things like Notice to Air Mission rather than infrastructure upgrades
Notice to Air Mission
Line Up and Wait
Changing the hijack code to 7500
Aviation is going to h#ll.
I've always used 75(Hi Jack) 76(Can't talk now) 77(I'm on fire). When did the 7500 become a thing? Plus it makes the rhyme scheme easier to remember
Seven fife he’s got a knife
Seven six radio needs a fix
Seven seven he’s going to heaven
Damn I’ve never heard that rhyme. When did the 7500 become a thing? Plus it makes the rhyme scheme easier to remember

Shortly after I checked out in my first ATC facility. Late 1976, it changed from 3100 to 7500.When did the 7500 become a thing?
That makes more sense. What an awful divert though. I thought we diverted to PAEN from ANC regardless of how much worse the wx forecast is there.......jk, my last ANC turn alternate was PAEN until it was FAI, long after we surmised through ACARS WX that there was no chance we were going to Kenai. It was pretty much "thanks dispatch, welcome to 2 hours ago"
Never needed it.Damn I’ve never heard that rhyme.

What was the reason for the labor shortage over the weekend? Was it the logistics of flying commuting flight crews to their bases, were the bases snowed in and nothing was moving including ground crew? It's really weird how airplanes seem to break on a holiday. I remember once I was on call on Christmas Day for the one who shall not be named and a LR35 came in for basically a quick turn and a crew change and the new crew decided the transfer pumps weren't working so they couldn't fuel it up, grounded the airplane and went home. I got there about 40 minutes later and found out that they were full of •, the airplane was fine. The captain that wrote it up was fired the following business day. Another lovely X-Mas morning involved a hawker 800 with an apparent dead battery, I think they thought if they called for MX they'd be released to go home, when I got down to the ramp in about a half hour and both batteries came online they both claimed to be idiots and started discussing the gloves they were wearing, I wasn't wearing gloves, it was Van Nuys. Aviation is 24/7, I understand hating it but if you just opt to not go in when lots other people are going in and even more are depending on you I shake my head. Don't ever ask why pilots these days don't get more professional respect. It was their turn.
