150 passengers trapped on JetBlue

...but if they have another cheap fare from FLL to JFK... batten down the hatches matey, we're a comin!

Doug you couldn't have said that any better! When I used to work on the ramp I saw a guy flip out after arriving from ATL, saying he would never fly US again, yadda yadda yadda, but then later that next week I saw him get off that same flight. People just aren't looking for service anymore, that's for damn sure.

I wish the people who say "I'm never flying again" actually kept their word.

I'd see a lot less people toting their "carryons" made of trash bags or people who don't understand why they've got to check their bags which are big enough to carry everything INCLUDING the kitchen sink.

Seriously, it's the 80/20 rule, and the 20 percent of the people who provide 80 percent of the revenue are the folks the airlines need to target instead of the once or twice a year Aunt Bessies.

"My kids are traumatized," passenger Aron Schiffenbauer said. "My son is traumatized. He's been vomiting. He doesn't have any clothes to wear and he's been vomiting the whole time since last night."
Might have been that funnelcake he had in Ft. Lauderdale! Or out of disgust that his dad didn't say "to hell with it!" and called a cab to the hotel.

"But... somebody's gotta take CARE of me.... :("

I'm tellin ya they just need to fly on Big Balls Airlines next time.

ROFL!!! :yup: :laff: :yup: :laff: :rotfl:

You can't really fault B6 for this one. In fact, I'll give them kudos for keeping the airplane and crew around to get the passengers to JFK when they finally could.

Most airlines would have ferried the airplane out and told the pax they were on their own...
What the...? :insane: I must say I agree with Velo on this one.

Planes divert to ACY all the time. It's the only airport outside of the PHL-EWR-LGA-JFK system that can accommodate them. On any given bad weather day or night it's not uncommon to see many aircraft of all different brands sitting there. But ususally, they divert, sit for an hour and leave. That night was different and the wait was much longer.

Well, the last scheduled plane to depart the airport left shortly after this plane arrived. And the last plane scheduled to arrive the airport was at 10:47 PM (the Spirit flight from FLL!). Everything shuts down after those passengers depart the terminal--including the rental car agencies and the shuttle vans (the airport is nine miles inland from the actual shore and this is now high season). So, now there are issues with how many are at the airport: TSA, GA's etc to help with the situation. There are mechanics, but not much else. Also, the gates are taken by Spirit planes scheduled for early AM departures. So, at midnight, it's not so easy.

But, I don't know the particulars in this situation.

Aside from not dispatching to begin with, I don't see any thing that they, or any other airline in that situation, could have done differently. The media really does wonders for this type of situation. (All negative.)

Passengers need to come to grips with the fact that every time they fly, they risk getting diverted somewhere and having your whole plan disrupted. Sometimes there is absolutely nothing anyone can do about it. It's like a flat tire. It sucks, but it's nobody's fault.

Too many airplanes trying to fit into too few slots at a given time combined with bad weather, and what do you expect?

Which is exactly why you don't make New York's John F. Kennedy Airport a hub in the hub/spoke system, especially for a Low Cost Carrier.

Simple business decisions.

Short story-
An Air Canada EMB-170, lost it's slot at DFW during storms and had to go to Abilene, TX for the night. Talk about a culture shock, from the ultra-liberal Toronto to hickville ABI.

Very true ... ACY is a popular alternate to wait out storms for the NY metros. About three years ago a flight (which may have been JBU) held so long they went minimum fuel and as they did ACY went below minimums... they diverted into KWRI !

One thing I wonder... why doesn't anyone divert into KISP ? On bad nights the NY metros will be holding all along the east coast but SWA comes and goes into ISP with little to no delay. The runways can handle most jets and they are about an hour east of JFk/LGA.
