14 year old at my FBO broke 3 world records

Then we could go to Sporties. The head guy of the then program pulled me in his office and told me he didn't think flying was for me while questioning my mental cognitive ability to fly a plane and told me he was recommending me out of the program. Never mind that my flight instructor frequently yelled at me and call me all manner of names or that they only had three planes (C152's) and were constantly over booking flights. The program was VERY,VERY cliuqish (sp) and only the popular favored guys did well in the program.

Seriously? How long ago was that? I was thinking about doing some of my training at sporties while im down at NKU but if that head guy is still there forget that... And Cincinnati cops always pull that BS and Noone that can do anything about it does..

All I can say is this and you can take it however you want, it is your choice.

If you blame everybody else for your problems, then they have the power over you. Period end of subject.

That goes for EVERYBODY!

Blame your parents for abusing you.
Blame the man for keeping you down.
Blame your wife for cheating on you.
Blame your teachers for not caring.
Blame, Blame, Blame.

I think its cool that this kid is getting an opportuinity to pursue his dreams. I think its a nice story that the kid is black also. I think its an even better story that he is doing community service to kind of pay his way through this.

Here are the facts though:
1. the kid is black and he didn't make a big deal about it. He just wants to fly and he probably could care less about the attention.

2. The instructor made a big deal, and he probably has some need to be appreciated that isn't satisfied in his life.

3. The media makes a big deal about minority stories because they want to at least sell the fact they do not exclude any groups.

4. Whites are so scared ####less about being labled a Racist that we either do not speak to minorities for fear of offending them, or we go over board and make it a point that everybody knows how inclusive we are. "Hey look at me"

Gotta take people one at a time. More importantly if you have people you call friends that act hateful, tell them they are wrong and if they don't want to change, then don't associate with them. Everybody is so damn concerned with being liked, or saying the right thing. Its all ########.

That is all.:)

Reasons why it is important that he was black/african american:

Minority is a minority... that's understood. But the numbers are severely disproportinate in field of aviation. "Statistically, less than 1 percent of pilots in the commercial aviation industry are... African American". For example... I've been flying 121 for over a year and a half... times I've had a black captain... 0.

Racial issues asside... That is why it is significant that the young man was black/african american.
Awesome job on his part! Think of how much community service he has to do in order to keep up with both helicopter and fixed wing instruction. Regardless of race... that young man is far more motivated that I ever was at his age.

Bob
Thought I'd throw this into the mix before this puppy get's flushed.

Good post Bob!

I'm with Max and Lloyd. It's good to see him achieve something so great. Imagine all of the lives he's just influenced by doing this. There are alot of people from his community who don't think that they will ever amount to anything or achieve something so great. It may not be a "big deal", but it is...

Just to clarify, I think what he did was amazing. But I think it would be just as amazing if he were white. I think it's saying something bad when you make a comment, "It's crazy that a 14 year old is doing this. An African-American kid soloing at 14 hours!"

Ok last post, just didn't want people to forget what I was saying in the beginning, that THE KID IS EXTREMELY DRIVEN AND TALENTED.

Aiy braha seriously I wouldn't train at Sporties. I'm not there now so maybe things have changed but check that out for yourself. When I was there they only had like three planes program.

They are three blue and white C152's. They one had a Bonanza for the Commercial and no multi aircraft. Can't remember what they they used for instrument...maybe the Bonanza.

I think that your time and money could be much better spent finding a school in the city perhaps at Lunken or maybe Tricounty/Sharonville/Blue Ash,plus there closer to you in Middletown. Why would you want to go to Batavia?

Last I heard the guy in question left the program and started doing some chartering but this was all way back in 98-99.

I had a few run ins with CVG police I'm not to fond of them but they seemed to treat me fair. It was only the police in KY. that I has SERIOUS issues with. Were talking Erlanger police,Cincinnati airport police and KY state troopers.

I try to stay the #### outa KY. seriously cause those good ole boys down there aren't playing!!!

Wow reading that made me really angry. At those assh*le cops of course. I sure hope all cops in AZ arent like that. Max i think you need to make your way out to california. People seem to be a lot more laid back here. At least from my experience.

No I have NEVER had any incidents with cops here in AZ. The incidents I described happened in Kentucky. AZ is much like CA. definatrely more of a cosmopolitan is there racism out here of course but they keep it to themselves and don't show it openly. I have no fear driving at night here in AZ but I hated to do it in OH or KY. Cause thats mainly primetimewhen you get hassled and pulled over for "driving while black".

Officer: "Its 11:30 at night son what're you doin out here tonight?"

Me: "Driving my car sir." (Seriously what kinda question is that?)

Officer: "You got any drugs on your person or in the vehicle?"

Me: "No sir."

Officer: "Do you mind if I check?"

Me: "No sir, only if I can monitor you."

Officer: "No you'll have to stay in the car."

Me: "Then I don't consent to your search."

Officer: "Then I'm calling a supervisor, stay in your vehicle with your hands on the stearing wheel."

I'm going to Skymates next year and my mom seriously fears for my life because of problems I have had in the south before.

You'll be straight. It's not like that at all here.

Alright, I wasn't going to say anything else, but this seriously is prejudiced. How can you equate one persons limited experience in one state to ALL of the south.

Jeebus Christ this is ridiculous.

Damn...everything is prejudice to you. If I were to say the sun is hot you prolly say I'm prejudice.

My mom is just being a mom. I'm gay and black and not at all afraid to speak my mind to anyone and everyone. Kinda double negative being black and gay when your dealing with a bigot. So with the dragging of the black guy that happened there a few years back and the whole Matthew Sheppard gay bashing stuff she just worries alot for me.

That is all. She didn't assume that my first day out I'm stumble upon a klan meeting.

:insane:

Maybe it's just a shock to me because I come from a lot smaller town compared to the DFW area, and even here in Bush's hometown we don't have crap like that going down. The Klan came here a few months ago and were booed by the entire community, and you wouldn't believe how many openly gay guys there were when I was in high school.

Rednecks listen to rap here, gay people are open about their sexuality, and there are almost as many Mexicans as there are whites here...I am just offended when I see someone use broad generalizations and say that the south is racist and ignorant as a whole. I LIVE IN THE SOUTH, and we whites don't have meetings about how much we hate blacks and gays. It is a minority that does that kind of crap, so please understand why I wouldn't like you putting me in a group of narrow-minded bigots.

HA! Chanca es porque yo trabajar con gentes de Mexico, y solemente conozco Mexicanos aqui.

I'm sure there may be some latinos here from other countries besides Mexico, but when I say Mexicans I mean Mexicans, the majority of brown people here ARE Mexican.

This place is very close to Mexico, and not that close to anywhere else...New Mexico maybe...

That was a well thought out and properly executed post...congrads. Oh and Midland TX. (sucks) isn't Bush's hometown but it is his wifes.

I have passed through Midland/Odessa coming from DFW to TUS nothing out there but speed traps to catch speeding motorist!!!
