15 cents?None of yall ever experienced Triple Nickel.
It's ALL Fiddy Cent these days. Maybe you need a refresher course!
And, just for the record, "Y'all" must have an apostrophe!

LOL! Yeah, I used to fly a few planes like that too. Every flight, half the equipment on the plane was broke. After takeoff, it was my job as a pilot to determine which half.It was a ship number for an infamous POS at XJT years ago that collected MELs and had a surprise on a daily basis.
I think it is a toss up between me or the CA, as to who fires off the APU prior to push. I've immediately fired it off when the gals say it is hot (once I do the safety check mind you, this isn't nam, we have rules). It burns 100# / hr right? Barely even moves the needle, especially since the fueler is probably on the jet for half the time/or just tops you off after running it for a while. I have only flown with one (single) dude who was weird about it, and only on the taxi in (like you read about, he had a position approaching the gate where he wanted me to throw the switch). Didn't GAF about when we started it up on the way out. I do appreciate Beef saying he would hold it until the FO finished the walk around. That is next level service. I'm used to jet blast coming from every direction, and some dumb a** telling me to wear my gloves, and then telling him to f*** off. This precious FO preflight without noise is commendable. I'm actually not being sarcastic. I don't really want to finger plug my ears in the wheel wells either.
I have some nice Bluetooth earbuds that I use and bonus music during the walk around. 10/10 recommend.
Of course I’m doing the walk around if you’ll let me…

I think all 121 pilots should be required to learn that 1000# = 150 gallons. So when someone says oh I saved 200 pounds with that direct routing they understand it’s only 30 gallons of gas.
I think this is the downside of so many tasks being done for 121 crew. They don’t know what 100# of gas means.

We need to change that. VX it was Pilot Monitoring stuff. PF did the box. We need to bring that backThat isn't CA stuff you crazy old man.
oh I remember! XJT was also some weird "power by the hour" with the APUs where they were leased, not owned by the company (CAL). So I think thats why they were weird about using them.None of yall ever experienced Triple Nickel.
I mean, that’s not insignificant. One flight saved 200 lbs. Now imagine millions of flights annually. It adds up.
Good grief. What a mess that place was after that CAL/UA/ASA merger. Apparently triple nickel is still in service somewhere in Indonesia. I looked it up once thinking it would have surely been scrapped but was horrified to learn it was still flying.oh I remember! Even ignoring the obvious unsafe aspect of jamming to your tunes on the ramp when you should be paying attention to your surroundings because it’s expletive dangerous down there, you oblivious chumps, most ANR buds probably don’t have enough noise reduction to keep the air cycle machines from splitting your ears at close range.Using ear buds to listen to music during the walk around is an incredibly stupid idea.
If I have to explain why it’s a stupid idea, then you need to reevaluate your risk management strategy.
At the fOOrmer employer, I had the VPFO on the jump seat with no APU and no ACARS once, and this was when manual performance was still very much a thing, and the horrible weight and balance worksheets for the 175 provided at least some discussion of “so if you want to fix something, fix this. And thanks for the high workload MEL, but at least it’s only 54 degrees freedom out.”I don’t give a ish what the temp is. I fire up the APU soon I step on. Don’t care if the Chief Pilot, CFO, and CEO are sitting in the back. Not worried about $$$ or fuel.
