Got my ATP and 757/767 type!

That's the one! And I haven't actually heard the term CRAF since we had to watch those chem. suit demo videos in initial. It was painful.

Nah, I wish! I'm with the much, much smaller Tulsa based one.

Got my ATP and 757/767 type!

Took my checkride this morning and it went great. Can't wait to hit the line. Good luck in training Doug....it's been a sweet sim to "fly". Now onto IOE and see what the real thing is like.

    CHQ

I'm a recently former CHQer. Great company with great crews. Been nearly two months since I left and Im missing the place! The interview is pretty straight forward with the exception of the Baron sim. But with a little practice ahead of time that should be a non event. As some previously...

    Got a new job!

I have 2400TT, 1200 turbine, zero turbine PIC and no ATP. Needless to say, having a strong internal reccomendation got my foot in the door.

    Got a new job!

Well the time has come to move on! The last two years at Chautauqua have been great, but a new oppurtunity has come up. I interviewed 2 weeks ago at Omni and got offered an FO position in the B-757. I start training on October 23rd in Miami! Just in time to escape the midwest cold!

    IFR Flight Plan for Check-ride?

The applicant is the PIC on any checkride, unless otherwise arranged with the examiner (good luck with that one). 61.47: "(b) The examiner is not the pilot in command of the aircraft during the practical test...." The applicant indeed is not properly qualified on the aircraft or rating...

    Important Pic Question

Technically you are both pilots logging PIC (one acting, one sole manipulator), so there is no passenger on the flight. I'd say you should be OK without the 3 take offs and landings, but can't say that with total certainty. To be safe, like a previous poster said, take it up in the pattern 3...

What legally has to be written down.

Under Part 91, legally you don't have to have anything written down. Just know that it can be done, that you are legal and within limits. Many flight schools will require you to have this written as an internal policy. For example, DCA required students to fill out a full TOLD card before...

    Chautauqua peeps

LGA is fairly senior. Lowest FO on the totem pole was hired on 8/30/2005. You are unlikley to get that base right out of training, and it's future is uncertain with the shift of US Air 145 flying to Continental. Thats not to say if you get hired tommorow that you won't eventually get it...

    Chautauqua peeps

CHQ doesn't fly 170s, just 145's (and soon CRJs too). 170s are flown by Shuttle America and Republic. Same seniority list, contract and all, but different certificates. ORD is a 170 base for Shuttle America. Right now we're in the process of recieving our last 170 delivery, and that'll most...

    Uniforms at the instructing level

Airline uniforms to instruct....just say no!!! I agree with other posters though...it's a pure marketing tool. But it works. When DCA introduced student uniforms, they allowed the students at the college bases to decide whether or not they wanted them. Amazingly enough, they were voted in...

    Chautauqua peeps

The bases listed were CHQ 145 bases. However, if CMH is what you're after, you're in luck - it's both a 145 and 170 base. Of course there's now the possibility of newhires getting the CRJ, who's only base right now is SDF. But I'd expect CMH to also become a base eventually for the CRJ. As...

    Chautauqua peeps

Training for the 145 was held in STL, indoc. in IND. Hotel provided. Pay is $200 a week (if I recall? can't remember now) as a per diem check, then regular pay after 30 days. Training is done by Flight Safety. The instructors are all FSI staff...mainly ex TWA and furloughed AA guys. A good...

    CAPT is back!

Sweet, there's gonna be a pilot shortage. Some guy fro some flight school said so...good times and many job oppurtunities for all! Oh nearly forgot: [sarcasm]

    Chautauqua peeps

What exacly do you want to know? Here's some random info... We currently have 4 codeshares (UAL, DAL, AA and US) and about to get a 5th (CO). CHQ has 9 bases: MCO, SDF, CMH, LGA, GSO, RIC, BUF, IND and STL. We're really into the whole outstation basing thing which makes for a good variety...

When are you required to file IFR?

The way I look at it is you fly IN visual meterological conditions (VMC) UNDER visual flight rules (VFR) (and the same logic applies for IMC and IFR). VMC or IMC defines the weather conditions. VFR or IFR refers to the rules/regulations under which you are operating. And here's another...

When are you required to file IFR?

Right, and Class E is controlled airspace. What's your point here? As far as part 91 operations go, the answer is pretty straight forward...whenever operating under IFR in controlled airpsace you must have a flight plan on file and recieve an ATC clearance. Right out of 91.173. You could...

    Orlando Seniority at Chautauqua

Orlando is incredibly senior, and right now the only movement is out. Like Kingairer said, rumour is that it will close by the end of the year. However, I've heard Freedom's expansion has stopped with the last aircraft delivery complete. If this is true, we may just hang on to some of that...

    Time logging with CFI passenger

The costs can be split. Absolutely no problem with that. Whether the other passenger is a pilot or not or if you were logging the time towards a certificate or rating is irrelevant. If you were pilot in command and/or sole manipulator of the controls, then go ahead and log the time.

    non US citizen

Yes. The only additional process you have to go through as a foreigner is the TSA background check. It's a time consuming nuisance, but wasn't the detterent I thought it would be to getting an airline job.

    Is my Career Over???

I know of several regional pilots who ticked that box and were hired, and for worse offenses. One even got to pick between two job offers from two top regionals. It's not a career killer (at least as far as regionals go). Having said that...you've just made your future interview experiences...

Almost fell on the floor laughing...

A suspected ex-Gulfstreamer posted about this dilemna on Republicpilots.org. Supposedly he/she is at Pinncale, wants to come to CHQ but lacks PIC time and wants to know if CHQ has the same deal Pinnacle does (ie- let some 121 SIC time count towards PIC time). If I remember correctly, the answer...

    CHQ and Continental Flying

I agree...although exactly where the aircraft are going to come from is the big mystery. I think the only thing we can say for sure is they aren't going to be new! Recently everyone has pointed to the block hour reduction by Delta as a sign that the 50 seaters are on their way out, but I'm not...

    CHQ and Continental Flying

The closing of FLL isn't going to free up any aircraft. While it seems to us FL guys that our Delta flying has been dissapearing as Mesa takes over, a quick trip to the CVG A terminal will reveal where all those planes and flying went off too. We have 71 departures a day out of CVG next month...

    prices are up

    Man, I remember in 1999 when I rented a C-152 for $55 an hour and a PA-28 for $65 an hour. These days I'm paying triple figures per hour for a C-172...or close. I can't believe a C-152 is nearly $100.

    New Citizen!

Hi all, Just thought I'd mention that yesterday I became a proud U.S. Citizen! It's been a long road...8 years on since I moved here, but still shorter then what most have to wait. Would have posted yesterday, but too busy celebrating by consuming copious amounts of adult beverages :-)

Excellent choice. It'll keep you sharp on W&B calculations as well as safe.

    Ramp Check/W&B

That sounds "more" right. The experience I explained was second hand knowledge...well, you know how that is. But good point...he wouldn't need to make you do a W&B calculation to nail you...could just do one himself!

    Endorsements for CFI Tests

No, no endorsements needed for any CFI exam, including the FOI. Good luck.

    Ramp Check/W&B

For a part 91 operation, you are not required to have a weight and balance calculation completed and ready for inspection. If it's just you, one or two other passengers and no bags, it's pretty much a given that you'll be within weight and balance limitations for most light aircraft that I'm...

Boca pilot's family awarded $25 million in fatal mid-air collision near Deerfield

I'd be careful about bashing the family on this one. This was a fairly well publicized accident at the time, and it's not unreasonable to think that a hot shot attorney contacted the widow and offered to initiate the lawsuit, at no cost. If a loved one close to me had died, and someone...

    Where's the DCA thread?

Even more unbelievable....I assumed that before they threatened a DELTA employee with disciplinary action at DELTA, they would have at the very least have got some backing from an actual DELTA exec/manager/supervisor. I always said that some people at DCA are delusional and truly believed...

    Ready to Solo!

I second what a previous poster said...it's all about the airspeed. Your aim is to stall with the lowest pitch attitude possible as this will make the plane a little easier to control, since you'll have more visual cues then a windscreen full of sky. What I used to do was maybe hold off...

    Standz

Fair enough...But I've talked to some ex-students there recently who have completed their instructor time and they seem fairly resigned to going to Mesa. They haven't even mentioned Expressjet or Eagle. I'm not sure if they just want the quickest interview or what, but they didn't seem too...

    Standz

2 years? Thats nothing I did nearly 3 years! I didn't think I'd see the day where Broward guys were getting done quicker then Sanford, but it's happened. Not that it matters anymore now that Mesa seems to be the only airline to look forward to at the end of it.
  39. C

    Standz

Good luck 180! Reading your write up on standz has bought back some erm, well, painful memories! But good ones too. I got hired as a CFI there in the booming month of August 2001. While they preached a hard line philosophy during standz (No retakes! etc..), in reality they needed each of us...
