I thought I'd add my experience to the thread. I'm a February applicant that also applied to the May announcement. Like many of you guys and gals, I was passed up for that opening after an 84% (barely missed the well qualified) on the ATSAT back in March. My Febrary geo preferences were for Southern California only (notice my screen name). I decided to be a little more flexible this time around and selected both CA and Nevada - Terminal and Enroute, though I specified High Desert TRACON as my only enroute preference.
I have two friends who are current controllers - one that is a 28 year vet at a level 9 terminal here in SoCal, and another a high level supervisor at a very busy terminal in the LA area. Both have gone to bat for me to get any info they could for me regarding this opening. One was kind enough to write me a letter of recommendation. Even with both of those people, who are veteran controllers (and supervisors) in the FAA working on my behalf, nothing came of their efforts in terms of finding out anything new. I'm not even certain that letter will land in the right place, if anywhere at all. As one of those guys put it, the whole FAA hiring process for controllers is a mystery to even vets of the FAA. Only a small contingent of folks in the top echelon know what is going on, and the only way for us to find out about the process is to wait.. wait.. and wait some more, until finally we are selected for an interview.
I've been more in tune with what has been going on with the FAA (via this website!) than either of my friends have. I'm hopefull that we'll know in less than a week.
